All 31,450 seats for the Kedarnath helicopter shuttle service, scheduled between April 22 and June 15, were sold out within 90 minutes of the booking portal opening, officials said on Saturday, reported PTI.  According to officials, the booking process commenced at 6 pm on April 15, with the final ticket issued by 7:28 pm. The portals (kapat) of Baba Kedarnath opened on Wednesday, as thousands of pilgrims arrived at the Dham amid fresh snowfall that blanketed the entire Kedarnath township under a thick layer of snow. Devotees were seen making their way to the shrine, with the snow-covered landscape adding to the spiritual atmosphere of the pilgrimage. Rudraprayag District Magistrate Vishal Mishra on Wednesday said that snowfall this season has been significant even during March and April, drawing excitement among devotees. “The snowfall this time was heavy even in March and April. Our devotees are very excited to see the snow. I appeal to everyone to be cautious and not take the routes that are not safe for your journey,” Mishra told ANI. Continuous heavy snowfall has blanketed Kedarnath Dham under a thick layer of snow measuring nearly three to four feet, covering the entire township and surrounding areas in white. According to the Kedarnath Temple Committee, at the world-renowned eleventh Jyotirlinga, Kedarnath Temple, and the entire Kedar Valley have been enveloped in a shimmering layer of snow, creating a truly divine and mesmerising scene. Despite sub-zero temperatures and harsh weather conditions, personnel from the Uttarakhand Police and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) remain fully alert, maintaining a strong security presence in the region. “Even in such extreme conditions, the jawans continue regular patrols to ensure the sanctity and safety of the shrine,” the Temple Committee said.
