A court in Kerala has permitted the NIA to conduct a further probe into a Popular Front of India (PFI) activist who allegedly sheltered the prime accused in the 2010 case involving the chopping of Professor T J Joseph’s palm. The case, later taken over by the National Investigation Agency, resulted in the conviction of 19 accused persons. The first accused, Savad, who allegedly chopped Joseph’s palm, was arrested from Berram, Mattannur in Kannur in January 2024, where he had been hiding under the pseudonym Shajahan. A Kerala court on Friday found eight BJP-RSS workers guilty in a case of beating and stabbing to death a CPI(M) activist near Alamcode here in May 2013. Thiruvananthapuram Additional District and Sessions Judge IV Aaj Sudarsan found Shambhu Kumar alias Shambhu, Sreejith alias Unni, Harikumar, Chandramohan alias Ambili and Santhosh alias Chandu, guilty for the offence of murder under the IPC. The court found three others including Abhishek alias Anni Santhosh, Prashanth alias Pazhinji Prashanth and Sajeev, guilty of being part of the criminal conspiracy to commit the offence of murder, special public prosecutor (SPP) A A Hakkim said. The SPP stated that the court will announce the sentences on January 15. Kozhikode(Kerala): A Kerala court on Tuesday sentenced a 57-year-old man to a cumulative of 79 years imprisonment for the repeated rape of a 10-year-old girl two years ago. Nadapuram Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) judge K Noushadali sentenced the man to varying durations of imprisonment under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for a total of 79 years, Public Prosecutor (PP) Manoj Aroor said. However, as the sentences are to be served concurrently and the highest of the jail terms given to the man is 20 years, he will serve 20 years in prison, Mr Aroor said. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.12 lakh on the convict, the prosecutor said. The crime was committed in 2022 in Kavilumpara panchayat, the PP said.
