The ED has issued a fresh notice to former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan‘s daughter Veena T, asking her to appear for questioning on June 29 in a money laundering case linked to mining company CMRL and her now-defunct IT firm, sources said on Sunday. Monsoon triggers rise in Shigella, Chikungunya and influenza cases in Kerala

As the monsoon gains strength across Kerala, health authorities are witnessing a surge in communicable diseases, with cases of Shigella, Chikungunya, influenza, leptospirosis and brain fever being reported from different parts of the state. According to data from the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), 24 people have died due to various communicable diseases since June 1. The department has also recorded 12 suspected deaths linked to infectious diseases during the same period, reported PTI. Shigella cases on the rise So far in June, Kerala has reported 38 confirmed Shigella cases and one death. Another 20 suspected cases have also been recorded.  Since January 1, 2026, the state has registered 114 confirmed Shigella infections, 80 suspected cases and two deaths. “However, the number of Shigella cases this year has increased substantially,” a health official said expressing concern over the growing number this year, reported the news agency. Shigella is a bacterial infection that causes diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps. It usually spreads through contaminated food and water or through contact with infected individuals. Kerala eateries to shut for 24 hours tomorrow over LPG price hike protest

Hotels, restaurants, bakeries, and canteens across the state will remain closed for 24 hours on May 6 in protest against the steep hike in cooking gas prices, the KHRA said on Tuesday. As part of the statewide agitation, online food delivery services will also be suspended for the day, the association said in a press release. The protest has been called to demand a rollback of the LPG price hike. The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association said that protest marches and dharnas will be organised in front of the offices of petroleum companies and central government establishments across the state. In Ernakulam, a protest dharna will be held in front of the Indian Oil Corporation office at Panampilly Nagar, which will be inaugurated by its state president, G Jayapal. Similar protests will be held at district headquarters across Kerala, the association added. Several trade bodies-the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi, Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Samithi, All Kerala Caterers Association, and Hostel Owners Federation-have extended support to the shutdown, KHRA office-bearers said. As per PTI, the court ordered a stay saying that “prima facie there is non-application of mind by the censor board while certifying the movie.” Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas passed the order on two pleas challenging the release of the film. The HC also said that the guidelines, that ensure that social harmony is not disrupted by a film, were seemingly not adhered to by the CBFC. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas of the Kerala HC’s order said, “Prima facie, these guidelines do not appear to have been borne in mind by the CBFC while granting certification.” The film has received a U/A certificate and the makers claimed that they were given 16 cuts by the CBFC, however, the nature of these cuts was not revealed to the petitioners’ counsels. Police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly raping a minor girl under the guise of exorcism in Kerala’s Kollam district. Murari was booked under various sections of the BNS, including Section 64 (rape), 74 (assault or criminal force), 75 (1) and 76 (sexual harrassment) and so on and POCSO Act, police added.
