Kappan and Kerala Congress (M) chairman Jose K. Mani that is fuelling uncertainty in Pala this time. The stakes are much higher. For the outcome of this election could mark the culmination of years of political twists and turns the Assembly constituency has witnessed since the death of K.M. Mani, the Kerala Congress patriarch. Adding to the intrigue, the fight for Pala promises a three-way battle this time, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) fielding one of its most aggressive leaders in central Travancore, Shone George. The Pala battleground has been simmering ever since the 2021 Assembly polls. What began as a bitter fight over several development projects between Mr. Kappen and Mr. Mani has evolved into a high-stakes duel for dominance. The KC(M), backed by the Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) organisational machinery, is desperate to reclaim its citadel and shake off the shadow. KC(M) stronghold till 2019 Pala, …

File image/PTI BJP leader Amit Malviya has strongly criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for questioning election results without offering proof. His remarks came amid the ongoing winter session of Parliament, which has seen sharp confrontations between the BJP and opposition parties, including the Congress. What BJP said? In a post on social media platform X, Malviya said Rahul Gandhi follows a familiar pattern whenever election results do not go in his favour. He alleged that Gandhi often blames electronic voting machines, raises claims of “vote chori”, and questions the system after defeats, while accepting the same electoral process when the Congress records victories elsewhere. ‘LDF supported ASHA workers, fight against Centre’: KK Shailaja unlikely to contest Kerala polls | India News

Former Health and Social Justice Minister KK Shailaja has thrown her weight behind the agitating workers as protests by Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) demanding better wages and working conditions continue to rattle Kerala. In a podcast hosted by IEMalayalam, Shailaja criticised the Centre for underpaying ASHA workers and stressed the need for both the workers and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) to jointly pressure the Union government to increase their honorarium. “Their needs are not bad. The issue is whom they are protesting against. They are asking the LDF government, which stabilised the matter. Let’s unitedly ask the Centre to increase their honorarium. For the Union Government, it’s easier to increase the revenue, while for a state government, it’s not so,” Shailaja said. Reflecting on the history of ASHA workers and their invaluable contribution during the Covid-19 pandemic, Shailaja said that their role was initially regarded as voluntary, with a meagre honorarium.
