He is the great-grandson of former State Congress chief Sir C. Sankaran Nair. Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar congratulated Mr. Menon, whose roots lie in the Ottapalam, Palakkad district. In a Facebook post, Mr. Arlekar said that he was fortunate to have visited Mr. Menon’s ancestral home last year to pay tributes to his great-grandfather. “Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Anil Menon, the pride of Kerala, in his historic space odyssey. Kerala: PNG gas leak in Thiruvananthapuram after road work damages pipeline

A PNG gas pipeline was damaged during road construction work at Kumarapuram here on Tuesday afternoon, causing a leak. An officer from Chackai fire station said that information of the gas leak was received around 12.50 pm and a team was immediately dispatched to the area. He further said that the valve of the Piped Natural Gas (PNG) pipeline was closed immediately and the personnel of the fire and rescue service are overseeing the repair work. “Once the remaining gas from the pipe is expelled, the repair work will be carried out,” the officer said. Local residents alleged that the pipeline should have been laid much deeper, and a major tragedy was averted due to God”s grace. BJP MLA V Muraleedharan, who reached the spot, said there was no need to be concerned as it was natural gas and would not catch fire easily. “There might be temporary difficulty for people in the area who may have inhaled it,” he said. The signs of a protracted legal battle emerged when actor Shwetha Menon, who had approached the court alleging that the ad-hoc committee was formed in violation of the laws of the association, opposed the plea by actor Ansiba Hassan to implead her in the case. The crisis had worsened after she announced that she would continue to remain president of the association, though she had announced her resignation at the general body meeting. Sugathan, councillor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation who is under six-month preventive detention under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA), to take his oath of office inside the Viyyur Central Prison in Thrissur on Tuesday (July 14, 2026.) The oath is to be arranged by the Superintendent of Viyyur Central Prison and administered by the Mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation at 11 a.m. The court also stated that accredited mediapersons should be allowed to participate in the ceremony.  Mr. Sugathan was among the 20 BJP councillors who had been directed by the High Court to retake their oaths after they had violated procedure during the original ceremony by using the names of local deities. A government doctor in Kerala has reportedly been booked over allegations that she prescribed an excessive dose of medicine to a six-month-old infant after immunisation, after which the baby fell seriously ill. The child’s family alleged that he had to be admitted to another hospital for five days for treatment, costing the family a bill of ₹80,000 (Unsplash) The incident happend in Aluva. The baby’s father registered a complaint against the doctor attached to the Aluva Government District Hospital on Saturday, news agency PTI reported. The child was reportedly administered a vaccine at the hospital in April this year and to prevent fever after the vaccination, the doctor allegedly prescribed liquid paracetamol in a quantity beyond the recommended dosage, the complainant alleged. Of the 478 police stations in the State, 414 will have SIs as SHOs while in 64 major stations inspectors will be retained in the post, the Minister said. He was addressing reporters at the Ernakulam Press Club during the launch of a programme declaring mediapersons also as Toofan Warriors, the volunteers involved in the ongoing State-wide anti-drug operations. Mr. Chennithala said the earlier system of SIs assuming charge of police stations was being reintroduced as part of a set of measures to revamp the police force. The decision to revert SHO duties from inspectors to sub-inspectors was taken based on the report by an expert committee, the Minister said. “At present, inspectors are the SHOs in all 478 stations. An 18-month-old boy who had remained in critical condition for five days after being given anaesthesia to stitch a cut lip died at a private hospital in Kannur on Friday, July 10. Toddler dies after anaesthesia for lip stitch; hospital denies negligence (AP) Devansh Shouria, who died at Baby Memorial Hospital in Kannur, was the only child of T Suraj and Vijisha of Mathamangalam in Eramam-Kuttoor grama panchayat. He was born after eight years of their marriage. Devansh sustained a cut on his lip after falling while playing in the courtyard of his house on July 5. His parents took him to Baby Memorial Hospital in Payyannur, where doctors administered anaesthesia to stitch the wound.
