Uttam Kumar Reddy said. Man ‘assaults’ minor girl, pushes her off apartment roof

In a gruesome incident, a 49-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old girl before pushing her from the roof of a residential apartment in Khammam three days ago, leaving her seriously injured with fractured ribs. The shocking incident came to light after the grievously injured girl regained consciousness at a city-based hospital where she is undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). According to sources, the traumatised girl reportedly narrated the horrific incident to her parents late on Monday night following which the latter lodged a complaint against the accused identified as Mohammed Ghouse, a truck driver. Sources said that Ghouse allegedly targeted the minor girl who had been staying with her family members at the apartment complex, where her grandfather is working as a watchman, for the past few days. The accused allegedly pushed the girl off the roof of the apartment complex after assaulting her when she reportedly resisted his rape attempt by raising an alarm, sources added. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy reviews the retaining wall works alongside the Munneru river in Khammam on Monday.| | Photo Credit: By Arrangement Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has asked officials to ensure speedy completion of the retaining wall works alongside the Munneru river in Khammam in strict compliance with the quality standards within the stipulated timeframe. The Minister, accompanied by Collector Muzammil Khan, inspected the retaining (flood protection) wall works at Polepalli in Khammam rural mandal on Monday. Work on the retaining wall spanning 8.5 km on either side of Munneru river has been taken up with an estimated cost of ₹676 crore in the backdrop of recurring flooding of the residential localities alongside the river during monsoon season. Last year, the Munneru swelled to about 36 feet, its highest level in decades, causing havoc in the areas along the river course in the town. ₹128-crore underground drainage scheme works begin in Madhira town

Work on the ₹128-crore underground drainage scheme in Madhira town of Khammam district got under way with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka performing bhoomi puja in the town on Sunday. The scheme is being taken up under the Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (TUFIDC) assistance, official sources said. It will have a sewerage pipeline network that runs a length of around 99 km and four sewage treatment plants (STPs) connecting around 6,638 houses in Madhira municipal limits. It will help improve sewage management and hygiene standards, thereby safeguarding public health and making Madhira a model municipality, sources added. The Deputy CM instructed the officials to ensure time-bound completion of the works in strict adherence to the stipulated quality standards. A lorry driver, who was caught while allegedly driving a cement-laden lorry under the influence of alcohol, jumped off the VM Banjar police station building in Khammam district after he was ‘detained’ there for questioning. The lorry driver, identified as Jeevan of Suryapet district, reportedly suffered hip fracture in the incident. Jeevan’s relatives alleged that he was beaten up by the cops at the police station. However, the VM Banjar police denied the allegations. The incident, which took place on Friday, came to light belatedly on Sunday after he was admitted to a hospital in Khammam. Police sources said that the lorry driver was detained by a police team following a complaint by the lorry cleaner on ‘Dial 100’ for allegedly driving the cement-laden lorry in an inebriated condition.
