According to the doctor, a 26-year-old started taking vitamin D after someone told her that “everyone is deficient”. She continued for months without repeated blood tests or medical consultation. Then came the symptoms: vomiting, severe weakness, constipation, extreme thirst, frequent urination, and confusion. Upon investigation, it was found that her vitamin D levels had become toxic, her calcium levels were dangerously high, and her kidneys were struggling. The southwest division of Bengaluru police have registered an FIR against an alleged Ayurvedic guru and an Ayurvedic shop owner after a city-based software engineer reported being defrauded of nearly ₹48 lakh and suffering kidney damage from purported herbal treatments. Three assailants were arrested in Bengaluru for assaulting a man and threatening him with firearms. The complaint, filed on November 22, names two accused – Vijay Guruji and the Owner of Vijayalaxmi Ayurvedic Shop in Yeshwantpur. The accused allegedly prescribed costly medicines such as Devaraj Booti ( ₹1.6 lakh per gram) and Bhavan Booti Taila ( ₹76,000 per gram), coercing repeated purchases under threats that treatment failure could endanger his life.
