A middle-aged tribesperson was allegedly trampled to death by a wild elephant inside the forest near Edamalayar in Kothamangalam on Sunday. The deceased is Pushpakaran Vellakkayyan, a resident of the Ponginchuvadu tribal settlement in Edamalayar. Pushpakaran was attacked by the tusker reportedly when he went to collect non-timber forest products in the evening. He was part of a four-member group. He is survived by wife and two children. The ex-Army man was in a relationship with a woman following his wife`s death and wanted to marry her. However, his 38-year-old son strongly opposed the move. Both used to quarrel frequently, as his son had been objecting to his father`s affair with the woman, according to neighbours. On Sunday night, the father and the son again argued over the same issue, which later escalated, said police.
