Patna: Former Union minister RCP Singh on Sunday joined Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party in Bihar, where assembly elections are due later this year. Mr Singh also announced the merger of his ‘Aap Sabki Awaz’ with the Jan Suraaj Party. The bureaucrat-turned-politician had floated his own party in November 2024. He joined the Jan Suraaj Party in the presence of its founder Prashant Kishor. “Both of us will work together to make Bihar a developed state,” Mr Singh said at a function here. Hailing from Nalanda, the hometown of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Mr Singh was an Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer, and on central deputation, he first came in contact with Mr Kumar when the JD(U) chief was the railway minister in 1999. After assuming power in Bihar in 2005, Mr Kumar, who was visibly impressed with the administrative acumen of Mr Singh, persuaded him to come to Bihar as his principal secretary. New Delhi: Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor is on a defensive during his hunger strike in Patna, after critics pointed at his plush van. Mr Kishor is on a hunger strike in support of the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) preliminary examination candidates, who alleged irregularities in the conduct of the exams. Mr Kishor’s white caravan is a modified minibus with standard caravan fittings installed. During his fast, his rivals pointed at the plush vehicle and questioned him if he was sincere in his protest. Three of these seats – Tarari, Ramgarh and Belaganj – were previously held by Opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) and Imamganj seat by the NDA. Image Source : PTI Prashant Kishor Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party on Saturday filed a plea in the Supreme Court to postpone by-elections in Bihar which are scheduled to be held on November 13. In the petition filed by Jan Suraj Party, it has cited that due to Chhath Puja in Bihar, there has been a demand to shift the date of by-election from November 13 to 20. The Supreme Court will hear the petition of Jan Suraj Party on Monday November 11. In the petition, Jan Suraj Party has argued that the dates of elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Kerala were advanced by the Election Commission on the basis of religious events, whereas despite the folk festival like Chhath in Bihar, the dates of by-elections in Bihar were not postponed.
