Manish Pandey joins Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma in achieving rare IPL feat, beats MS Dhoni to the mark | Cricket News

2 min readMay 3, 2026 05:05 PM IST Manish Pandey was on Sunday selected by the Kolkata Knight Riders for their 2026 IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, making it the first game of the season for the veteran batter. In the process, he has become just the third player to have made an appearance in each of the 19 seasons of the tournament. The only other players to have done this before him are India greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Interestingly, MS Dhoni, who has captained all three players in international cricket, is still sitting on 18 seasons as he is yet to play game in the 2026 edition. Pandey has played for six different sides in the IPL but has mostly been associated with KKR. He played for Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season and this was followed by two seasons with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In his first season with RCB, Pandey became the first Indian to score a century in the IPL. However, that remains his only ton in the league. Pandey …

2 min readApr 3, 2026 10:45 PM IST Nitish Kumar Reddy was player of the match in SunRisers Hyderabad’s first win of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to his all-round performance. Reddy’s prowess with the bat is something that has been seen by Indian fans across formats but batting great Sunil Gavaskar feels that his performance with the ball on Thursday augurs well for his international career as well and not just SRH. “He is definitely bowling quicker now and has clearly added a bit more pace,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports. “You can see better rhythm and flow in his action as well. That often happens when a player is fully fit and stronger physically.” Reddy scored 39 off 24 balls as SunRisers Hyderabad put up a score of 226/8. He then returned figures of 2/17 as SRH stifled the Kolkata Knight Riders batters for any kind of momentum throughout their chases. KKR folded for 161 runs in 16 overs, thus giving SRH a big 65-run win. It was a big comeback …

Both sides come into the match having suffered defeat in their opening games. SRH lost to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets in the season opener after which KKR lost to Mumbai Indians by the same margin in the second match of the season. KKR will be hoping that their star spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy can find some purchase on a pitch that had been a big talking point in the early parts of the previous season. Historically, Eden Gardens has been a stronghold of KKR, winning 54 out of 95 matches since 2008. However, KKR’s start has already hit a few early bumps as expectedly with their thin bowling resources. SRH boast a star-studded top order comprising Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Travis Head. Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Playing 11 Prediction, Full Squad, Players List

The Eden pitch is typically sporting with KKR alleging a lot of times last season that it does not play to their twin-spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy’s strengths. That debate is likely to continue this season as well but KKR are likely to still start with Varun and Narine who provides the necessary experience in KKR’s inexperienced seam bowling lineup. With Ajinkya Rahane, Finn Allen and Cameron Green looking in good touch, it’s unlikely KKR will tinker with the batting lineup. With Eden offering a batting surface it’ll be interesting to see if Rovman Powell gets a chance in place of Ramandeep Singh or Anukul Roy. Coming to SRH, they have the same problem like Kolkata– a pretty underwhelming bowling lineup and it gets even weaker due to the absence of Pat Cummins. They might also draft in Liam Livingstone in place of Salil Arora and also bring in an extra spinner, in case the Eden Gardens offers some turn. They are likely to go with the same batting lineup due to Eden being …

Aakash Chopra’s ‘unpopular opinion’ on KKR: ‘Don’t play Rahane-Raghuvanshi together’

Kolkata Knight Riders may have strolled to a victory by a whopping 80-run margin against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday evening at the Eden Gardens, but there were still weak spots in their batting order, according to cricketer-turned-analyst Aakash Chopra. After KKR’s victory over the team from Hyderabad, Chopra posted an ‘unpopular opinion’ on his X handle about the defending champions. “Unpopular opinion — Especially a day after KKR wins by 80 runs and both (Ajinkya) Rahane-(Angkrish) Raghuvanshi scored runs. But still. Here goes — If KKR really wants to realise the full potential of the batting power they’ve accumulated, they must not play Rahane-Raghuvanshi together,” Chopra posted. Story continues below this ad His views came after a game where KKR had lost both their openers against SRH by the third over and then saw Rahane and Raghuvanshi stabilise the team. Later, fireworks from Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh saw the side set a target of 201 runs. While KKR captain Rahane scored 38 (from 27), Raghuvanshi registered a half century against his name.
