37 years later and 6,450 kms away, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s debut carried the familiar thrill of a fearless teenager

For Indian cricket, teenage debuts have always carried a strange electricity. They are not just team-sheet decisions. They are acts of faith. A dressing room opens its door, a national cap is placed on a young head, and an entire country begins the dangerous business of imagining a future from a handful of balls. (X images, AP Photos) Sachin Tendulkar’s first steps in 1989 and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s first steps in 2026 belong to two completely different cricketing worlds. Tendulkar arrived in an age of red-ball severity, radio memory, newspaper romance and Pakistan’s fast-bowling fire. Sooryavanshi has arrived in an age of IPL noise, viral clips, tactical match-ups, social media verdicts and instant mythology. One was 16, the other 15. One came through Bombay’s unforgiving domestic machine, the other through Bihar, age-group cricket and franchise-cricket acceleration. Yet the first impression carried an oddly familiar note: the score was small, but the boy did not look small. Tendulkar’s route into the Indian team was not built on marketing or …

4 min readMumbaiJun 27, 2026 09:42 PM IST When Ashok Kakde, a Zilla Parishad school teacher from Ingalun village in Pune’s Junnar Taluka, began his journey on Saturday morning for Hadapsar, he believed the biggest challenge ahead was the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) scheduled for Sunday. Instead, around noon, when he had almost reached the destination, a message on his mobile phone informed him that the test had been postponed after an alleged question-paper leak that came to light a day before the examination. “I had travelled nearly 160 kms because my examination centre was in Hadapsar. I wanted to reach a day in advance and be fresh for the morning exam. Now I have to return home without even appearing for the test,” said Kakade, further highlighting that the examination has only been postponed, but the uncertainty over the heads of many in-service teachers like him has become longer. Kakde is among many in-service teachers who had travelled to examination centres across Maharashtra on Saturday for the TET scheduled on Sunday. And for them, …

Google Announces Quantum-Safe Digital Signatures in Cloud KMS

Google Announces Quantum-Safe Digital Signatures in Cloud KMS

Google announced on Thursday the development of quantum-safe digital signatures (FIPS 204/FIPS 205) in Google Cloud Key Management Service (Cloud KMS) for software-based keys. This is available in preview. The search giant also provided a high-level view into its post-quantum strategy for Google Cloud encryption products, including Cloud KMS and the Cloud Hardware Security Module (Cloud HSM). More Google news & tips Mounting concern over public-key cryptography systems This is significant, the company said, because the security of many of the world’s most widely used public-key cryptography systems has increasingly become a concern as experimental quantum computing continues to advance. Large, cryptographically-relevant quantum computers have the potential to break these algorithms. However, post-quantum cryptography (PQC) can use existing hardware and software to mitigate these risks.
