Theatre artists of Kolkata painted the old ticket counter at the heritage Academy of Fine Arts white on Tuesday, a month after some Hindutva group members painted the structure saffron and erected a portrait of Bharat Mata -a lion-riding goddess holding a saffron flag – beside it. The ticket counter was originally painted terracotta. Now it is white. At least 31 school kids studying in a government school at Shyambazar in Kolkata have fallen ill and admitted to a hospital since Monday evening, officials aware of the developments said. Parents claim that their children fell ill after eating mid day meal while others said their kids complained of poor water quality. (Representative file photo) While 24 students fell ill on Monday night and were taken to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with complaints of nausea, vomiting and stomachache, seven more children were admitted on Tuesday. State health minister Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay went to the hospital late on Monday night to take stock of the situation. “From around 6pm, some students complained of nausea and stomach ache. The hostel warden promptly rushed the girls to the hospital. Some of the girls were suffering from dehydration. The treatment was started immediately and IV fluid and medicines were given. Engineers and workers were seen carrying out preliminary operations at the site along the busy VIP Road corridor, where the 70-foot statue was installed just five months ago. This move comes after complaints from local residents that the massive structure appeared to sway during strong winds, raising concerns about its stability. According to officials, the relocation process will be carried out in multiple stages to ensure safety. Heavy-duty cables will first be attached to secure the statue, following which a 40-tonne crane will hold the structure firmly in place.
