Author and retired IAS officer Vishwas Patil on Friday filed a complaint before the Koregaon Bhima Commission of Inquiry against special public prosecutor (SPP) Shishir Hiray for allegedly giving misleading statements to the media about his novel “Sambhaji”. The novel, published about 20 years ago, is based on the life of legendary king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Patil had deposed as a witness before the commission, following an application filed by advocate Mangesh Deshmukh of the Vadhu Budruk gram panchayat in Pune district. Advocate Deshmukh said that Patil’s novel ‘Sambhaji’ had without any contemporary historical evidence mentioned that a person named Govind Mahar was involved in performing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s last rites. Patil was cross-examined by SPP Hiray mostly over some of the “imaginary” characters linked to the cremation of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the novel. His cross-examination by SPP Hiray concluded in March this year. Later, Hiray had spoken to several mediapersons regarding Patil’s cross-examination and his novel. Sex racket busted in Koregaon Park, woman from Thailand arrested | Pune News

Pune city police have busted a sex racket run by a woman hailing from Thailand from an apartment on South Main road in the Koregaon Park area. Police have arrested the woman identified as “Mookda Gaethaisongstate” under section 370 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA). Police havaldar Raees Baig lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Koregaon Park police station on Thursday. Police raided an apartment in a building on the South Main Road around 10 pm on Wednesday. Cops rescued two women, who are also from Thailand, from the spot. Police said the arrested accused had allegedly called these two women from Thailand to India on the premise of working at beauty parlours, but later lured them into prostitution. Traffic dept to issue changes near Koregaon Park flyover

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed an alternate traffic plan before demolishing the Sadhu Vaswani Railway overbridge located at Koregaon Park. The alternate traffic plan will be in effect from Saturday, January 6 after in-dept recce from the Traffic Police Department. The civic body said that the vehicles coming from Ahmednagar Road- Koregaon Park- Bundgarden- Council Hall would have to face all these changes. One of the accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, tribal rights activist Stan Swamy, was the target of an alleged cyberattack, and the people behind it planted documents and attempted to clear their tracks a day before a police raid, a new report said on Tuesday. Swamy died in custody last year at the age of 84. American digital forensics company Arsenal Consulting, in a report submitted to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court last week, claimed it found digital footprints of Swamy’s computer first being hacked with a spyware before several files were planted and a clean-up eventually being carried out. The analysis was first reported by Washington Post on Tuesday. “The attacker responsible for compromising Swamy’s computer had extensive resources (including time) and it is obvious that their primary goals were surveillance and incriminating document delivery,” said the analysis.
