Krishna Janmabhoomi case: SC issues notice on mosque committee plea against clubbing suits

File | Photo Credit: ANI The Supreme Court on Friday (April 4, 2025) issued notices on a plea of the mosque committee against the Allahabad High Court consolidating all suits of the Hindu side in relation to the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute. The High Court on October 23, last year, rejected an application of the Committee of Management, Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah seeking the recall of its January 11 order which consolidated all suits of the Hindu side in the case. The mosque committee had moved the High Court after the top court on March 19, last year, asked it to first seek the recall of the order consolidating the lawsuits there. On Friday, a Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Sanjay Kumar and K.V. Viswanathan noted the submissions of the mosque committee’s counsel and advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing some Hindu litigants, and issued the notices. The Supreme Court of India has today addressed the Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute, following a challenge by the Muslim side against a decision by a single bench of the Allahabad High Court. In today’s proceedings, the Supreme Court did not impose any stay or issue any new directives regarding the matter. The Apex Court instructed the Muslim petitioners to first decide whether they intend to challenge the single bench decision in the double bench of the Allahabad High Court. The Supreme Court has indicated that it will take up the case for hearing in the week beginning November 4, pending the outcome of the petitioners’ decision. Supreme Court To Hear Mosque Committee’s Petition In Mathura Land Dispute Case On September 17

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition by the Shahi Idgah Masjid challenging last month’s Allahabad High Court verdict, which allowed 15 suits filed by Hindu petitioners claiming the mosque, in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, is built on 13.37 acres of land that was Lord Krishna’s birthplace. The petitioners had sought removal of the mosque. The top court will hear the Muslim side’s petition on Tuesday. On August 1 Justice Mayank Kumar, in what was seen as a landmark ruling with implications for other similar pending suits, allowed all 15 suits by the Hindu petitioners to stand. That order came after the court re-opened hearings on the case because the Shahi Idgah counsel moved an application requesting he be heard and prayed for video recordings.
