An unidentified man allegedly stole a parked Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus from near the Palakkad depot and damaged a house compound wall and a shop before abandoning the vehicle, police said on Sunday.  According to police, the incident occurred at around 2.50 am when the man drove away a KSRTC bus that had been parked outside the depot. Four people from Varkanahalli village in Yadgir district died and three others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a KSRTC bus and a Bolero jeep near Maddaraki village in Shahapur taluk on Thursday night, police said. They put black paint on the windows and wrote Jai Karnataka in Kannada. They forced the driver to hold a flag and raise slogans of Jai Karnataka. Activists stopped the Ilkal-Solapur bus on the Kudal Sangam Road and defaced the vehicle. They claimed it was in response to Shiv Sena (UBT) activists defacing a NWKRTC bus in Solapur. “We have done all that they had done to our bus and driver,” the activists told reporters. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that he condemns such acts by anyone. “I do not support defacing of any MSRTC bus in Karnataka or KSRTC bus in Maharashtra. The introduction of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) options is expected to simplify daily commutes by eliminating the need for cash and addressing common issues with exact change, which often cause disputes between passengers and conductors. 10,000 ticketing machines To facilitate cashless transactions, KSRTC has equipped its buses with advanced Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs). These devices support a variety of payment methods, including UPI, debit, and credit cards, offering passengers a seamless and convenient payment experience. Currently, over 10,000 smart ETMs have been deployed across KSRTC’s fleet of 8,800 buses, with further expansion planned following conductor training.
