Can England exploit Croatia’s lack of pace at the back?

5 min readJun 17, 2026 08:30 AM IST When Bayer Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen 5-0 on April 14, 2024, winning the Bundesliga title and ending Bayern Munich’s run of 11 successive league titles, the resulting online content included visuals of a crestfallen Harry Kane and talk of a curse attached to him. The striker had spent many a trophyless year at Tottenham Hotspur and in international football with England. A move to Bayern was supposed to be a sure-shot way of ending that rut by at least winning the Bundesliga. It was all nothing more than banter, of course. The floodgates opened next season and now, Kane has two league titles and a DFB Pokal. Now, he may not have changed teams at the international level but England are trying something different at the 2026 World Cup by going in with Thomas Tuchel, a German, as their manager. Could this be the year for Kane and England? It is a question that has come to haunt England fans. Ever since the “Golden Generation” made a …

They are underpaid, they are overworked, and they are most sexualised.” According to the actor, nurses are often denied the dignity and respect they deserve. Kangana added that nurses perform many essential duties that go unnoticed. She said that people do not give them the respect they …

ISL clubs reconsider their participation in the league due to a lack of clarity

ISL clubs reconsider their participation in the league due to a lack of clarity

A few of the ISL clubs issued a joint statement on Friday, confirming that they could reconsider their participation in the league due to a lack of clarity about its future. Just a day after the conclusion of one of the most exciting Indian Super League seasons, in which East Bengal FC lifted the title, these clubs have decided to stop their first team’s operations. ” With deep concern and disappointment, the clubs of the Indian Super League wish to state that, given the continued uncertainty surrounding professional football in India, we are now compelled to review the extent of our commitment to the league beyond the current season, ” confirmed 9 of the 14 ISL clubs via a social post. After the end of its long-term deal with FSDL, the AIFF has failed to find a new sponsor for the Indian Super League, putting the future of the league in jeopardy. This uncertainty over the league’s future has left clubs doubting their sustainability amid existing financial, managerial and operational commitments. Hence, the clubs have …

Supreme Court notice to Delhi Government on lack of regular appointments to DERC

A view of the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi. | Photo Credit: Sushil Kumar Verma The Supreme Court on Monday (May 18, 2026) decided to examine a plea seeking the constitution of a selection committee to make regular appointments of chairperson and members to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) expeditiously. A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant issued notice to the Delhi government and the DERC on a petition filed by NGO, Energy Watchdog, represented by advocate Pranav Sachdeva, who argued that a dysfunctional DERC would result in petitions and applications seeking redress in electricity and energy-related issues pile-up in the national capital. The petition said the government had not made any move to even include a judicial member on the DERC. “The present composition of DERC is wholly contrary to law as it consists of only two pro tem members; lacks a chairperson; and lacks a person of law as a member, contrary to the mandate of the Supreme Court,” the petition said. Mr. Sachdeva said the pro …

Insensitivity and lack of concern, alleges Congress on Center’s silence over U.P. storm deaths

Uttar Pradesh Congress State president Ajay Rai. File. | Photo Credit: ANI Amid the Uttar Pradesh Government’s directive for Ministers in charge of all districts to meet with affected families impacted by heavy rainfall and storms and assess the situation on the ground, the Opposition Congress on Friday (May 15, 2026) demanded intervention on a war footing. They added that the Union Government had failed to react appropriately to the crisis, especially at a time when even Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed condolences to India following the deaths of 111 people and widespread destruction across several districts in Uttar Pradesh. “I failed to find any measures by the Union Government to support the state in the time of crisis. At least 111 deaths are a huge number by any yardstick. No official statement has come from top functionaries at the centre. The magnitude of crisis can be realised through the statement by the Russian president who offered condolences, this shows insensitivity and lack of concern by Union government functionaries towards common people of U.P.,” said …

India lobbies for expansion in UNSC, says lack of reforms limits its credibility

India on Friday strongly called for expansion of the UN Security Council with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar saying that the effectiveness and credibility of the global body will remain “constrained” without reforming it. Jaishankar made the remarks at a conclave of the foreign ministers of the BRICS nations in New Delhi. “We meet at a time when the effectiveness of global governance and the credibility of multilateralism are under increasing scrutiny,” he said. “The world today is more interconnected, complex, and multipolar than when many of our current institutions were created. Yet, the structures that underpin global governance have not kept pace with these changes,” he noted. Jaishankar listed four specific points to press for reforming the key international bodies and multilateral trading systems, and asserted that the reform of the United Nations and its subsidiary bodies remains “central”. “The membership of the United Nations has expanded significantly, and its responsibilities have grown. Yet, key structures, particularly the Security Council, continue to reflect an earlier era,” he said. “Without meaningful reform, including expansion in …

Sat-Chi reflects on lack of appreciation comment, ‘90% positive reactions’ | Badminton News

It’s a storm Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have now signed up for. Having willingly opened themselves up to the aftermath of asking why they don’t get enough appreciation, the duo reckon the only way to ride this hurricane is accept the tempestuous nature of reactions that will follow. The uneasy calm — indifference to a Thomas Cup bronze — has never been their style. So they will barrel through the wave of reactions that descended on them. Speaking to BWF after entering a regulation quarterfinal at the Thailand Open where they are top seeds, Satwik-Chirag grinned and paused a tad, to thank their fans. “Ofcourse there are many good people who stay up late at night and watch our matches,” Satwik would say. “There were negatives as well when we spoke, but more than that I saw almost 90 per cent positive reactions. That is a good sign.” For Chirag, the statements blew up much more than they expected. “There were obviously lot of critics, but there were also a lot of very positive …

Satwik clarifies his statement on lack of support after Thomas Cup bronze

3 min readUpdated: May 8, 2026 03:20 PM IST After Indian men’s doubles shuttler Satwiksairaj Rankireddy’s comments that “nobody cares” about India’s Thomas Cup bronze medal caused a stir on social media, the shuttler has issued a clarification regarding his intent behind the statement. On Friday, Satwik said his recent comments were not intended to seek “money or grand parades” but to urge people “to celebrate every win, big or small” in all sports. “The last few days have brought a lot of attention to my recent comments regarding the lack of a reception for our Thomas Cup bronze medal. While I am grateful for the overwhelming support and encouragement, I want to clarify my intent because I see many people deviating from the original point,” Satwik wrote. His statement continued: “My words did not come from a place of wanting personal fame or taking credit away from anyone else’s achievements. I have the utmost respect for every athlete who brings glory to India, regardless of the sport.” pic.twitter.com/XbsWxjM4oD — Satwik SaiRaj Rankireddy (@satwiksairaj) May …
