Soldier injured in landmine blast in J-K’s Poonch | India News

A soldier was injured in an accidental landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday, officials said. In another incident, an old rusted mortar was recovered in a village in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, they said. The landmine blast occurred at 10.50 am in the Nangi-Takeri area of Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar when the Army personnel were on patrol duty, the officials said. As part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system, the forward areas are dotted with land mines which sometimes get washed away by rains resulting in such types of accidents, the officials said. Officials said that the army troops found a rusted mortal shell in Fazalabad village in the Surankote area during the area domination patrol late this afternoon. An army soldier was injured in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Thursday, officials said. Rifleman Mohd Asif Rather, who was part of a patrolling party, accidentally stepped over a landmine in a forward area in the Balakote sector of Mendhar sub-division around 5 pm, they said. The soldier, who suffered injuries on his left foot, was evacuated to a military hospital for treatment, the officials said. Meet landmine blast survivor Hokato Sema- Nagaland’s first Paralympic medalist

When the much revered Soman Rana recorded a poor series of throws in the men’s shot put F57 final at the Paris Paralympics 2024, it looked like India’s chances of a medal were over in the event. However, the 40-year-old Hokato Sema turned up the heat when it was needed the most and recorded a personal best to win the bronze medal. It was astonishing that Sema, who never has crossed the 14m mark, threw beyond the mark four times in his six attempts and with a best throw of 14.65m won the bronze. When asked where the massive personal best came from, Sema told the broadcasters, “I was fourth in World Championships and it kept bugging me. I worked hard after that. I wanted to cross that 14m mark.” With his bronze medal, Sema also became the first-ever para-athlete to win a medal from the state of Nagaland and the region of NorthEast. CRPF Assistant Sub-Inspector injured in landmine blast dies at AIIMS Delhi

An Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), who was injured in a landmine blast triggered by Naxals in Chhattisgarh`s Dantewada on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi, officials said on Saturday. The ASI breathed his last on February 2, they said. According to officials, ASI Girish Babu belonged to Killi village in Uttar Pradesh`s Etawah district. On February 1, he was injured in a landmine blast triggered by Naxals in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. He was airlifted to Delhi and brought to AIIMS as he needed enhanced medical care. After receiving information about the ASI`s demise, the district administration and Etawah Police administrative officers visited his house in Killi village. “Girish Babu had recently shifted from Jammu and Kashmir to Chhattisgarh`s Dantewada. Soldier dies in landmine blast; property attached in militancy case in J&K

One soldier died and two others were injured in an explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Pir Panjal valley’s Rajouri.  An official said the soldiers were hit by the explosion caused by the landmine when they “inadvertently stepped over it”. The incident took place in Naushera Sector of Rajouri district, close to the LoC. Meanwhile, the J&K police attached a property of a local accused of harbouring militants. An official spokesman said the police in Anantnag, along with the Executive Magistrate concerned, attached the residential property of Abdul Salam Rather at Tangpawa Kokernag. “During the investigation, it had surfaced that Zahoor Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Salam Rather, was working as a terrorist associate and was providing food, shelter, and other logistic support to killed terrorists identified as Asif Reshi alias Khubaib and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat alias Talha, at his residential house,” the police said. It falls within ambit of ‘proceeds of terrorism’ under Section 2(g), Section 25 of UA(P) Act 1967, the police said.  Source link
