IMD warns of torrential rain, thunderstorms across several states today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert warning of torrential rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across several states on Monday as the southwest monsoon remains active over large parts of the country. According to the latest IMD bulletin, the next 14 hours are expected to be particularly critical, with heavy rain and severe weather likely to affect several regions. IMD warns of heavy rain and strong winds The weather department said wind speeds could reach up to 80 kmph in some areas, increasing the risk of uprooted trees, power outages, traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying areas. The IMD has advised farmers, travellers and people living near rivers and coastal regions to remain vigilant. Residents in hilly states have also been warned about the possibility of landslides and sudden rises in river water levels due to persistent rainfall. Heavy monsoon rain has caused the Indrayani River to overflow, cutting off access to Alandi in Pune district in Maharashtra after all four bridges leading into the temple town were submerged, reported the PTI. The Pune district administration has appealed to Warkaris and other devotees not to travel to Alandi until the flood situation improves. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for Pune on Monday, officials warned that travelling to Alandi is currently unsafe. In a public advisory, the administration urged devotees who had already started their journey to stop at their present locations instead of attempting to enter the town, the news agency reported. The officials also asked people not to believe rumours and to rely only on official updates issued by the district administration, police and disaster management authorities. Heavy rain triggers landslide in Mangaluru; three killed, three others injured

Three members of a family, including two young girls, lost their lives after a rain-triggered landslide destroyed their house in Mangaluru early on Wednesday. Three other family members were rescued from the debris and are undergoing treatment in hospital, as per PTI. The incident took place behind the Kankanady Police Station in the Nagori area after heavy overnight rainfall caused a section of a nearby hill to collapse, burying the house under a large mound of soil.  Rescue teams race against time Six members of the family were trapped when the house collapsed. Local residents were the first to rush to the spot, followed by personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who carried out rescue operations, reported the news agency. Three people were pulled out alive and shifted to a nearby hospital. The victims who died in the incident have been identified as Shanta (46), her eight-year-old daughter Anamika Chaurasia, and four-year-old daughter Pari.
