Delimitation to boost SC/ST, women MP seats without hurting South: BJP MP Laxman

Delimitation to boost SC/ST, women MP seats without hurting South: BJP MP Laxman

BJP Rajya Sabha member and national OBC president K. Laxman on Sunday said the Modi government planned to undertake delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies on a ‘pro-rata’ basis ahead of the 2026 Census to ensure that no State, particularly in the southern region, was disadvantaged. Pro-rata delimitation implies that States will receive additional Lok Sabha seats in proportion to their existing strength in Parliament, rather than purely based on population growth, he said, addressing a press conference at the State BJP office. He said the proposed exercise would enhance women’s representation due to the one-third reservation, while also increasing the number of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe members based on constituencies reserved as per the 2011 Census. How growing two-and-a-half inches caused Laxman Sivaramakrishnan to lose form and affect performance | Cricket News

3 min readUpdated: Mar 25, 2026 12:18 PM IST Despite having a strong start to his international career, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan last played for India when he was 21. The 1987 World Cup on home soil where he played two matches against New Zealand and Zimbabwe, happened to be his last as he lost his spot in the team and never came close to taking it back. A spinner who showed plenty of promise since the age of 14, when he played for India Under-19 and went on to make his Test debut as a 17-year-old, Sivaramakrishnan losing his way in the cricketing field has been a big puzzle. And the 60-year-old has said how growing two and a half inches taller brought an unexpected twist to his career. “In the 1987 World Cup in India, I was bowling a lot of full tosses. I got on the team when I was 16 and those were growing years for any boy or girl. At that age, 16 to 18 or 19, you keep growing. So I …

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan on how taunts about his colour traumatised him

4 min readUpdated: Mar 25, 2026 10:08 AM IST On his seventeenth birthday, touring Pakistan with the Indian team, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan was called to cut his birthday cake. A teammate looked at the cake Sunil Gavaskar had ordered and said: “Hey Sunny, you ordered the right colour cake. Such a dark chocolate cake for a dark boy.” “I started crying and refused to cut the cake. Then Sunil Gavaskar had to pacify me and then I cut the cake with tears in my eyes,” Sivaramakrishnan told The Indian Express. It was not the first time. At fourteen, a senior India batsman had mistaken him for ground staff at Chepauk and asked him to clean his shoes. In the Tamil Nadu dressing room, prominent players called him Karupa. When he fielded on the boundary in the north of India, crowds chanted Kalia. At a hotel in Mumbai — now the Trident at Nariman Point — a gatekeeper refused to let him back in. He was part of the Indian team. The gatekeeper looked at his colour …

Why Laxman Sivaramakrishnan spent more time in West Indies dressing room than India in the 1983 tour | Cricket News

3 min readUpdated: Mar 25, 2026 09:41 AM IST Former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has revealed he spent more time in the West Indies dressing room during the 1983 tour where he made his debut in the Antigua Test. Having faced a few unpleasant incidents during his time in Pakistan because of his skin colour, the 60-year-old says he was more at home in the West Indies.“Everybody’s skin colour was on the darker side. They were very happy people,” Sivaramakrishnan says. The former leg-spinner then recalled how the likes of Malcolm Marshall and Desmond Haynes would take him out during the Test series. “In West Indies I was treated very well even by the opposition, in fact my best friends were Desmond Haynes and late Malcolm Marshall, they used to take me out almost every evening. When the Test matches were going on, I’d probably take a change of clothes and have a shower in the ground and take permission and leave,” he told The Indian Express. Marshall and Haynes took him out almost every …

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan alleges racial bias after being overlooked for key on-air roles by BCCI

He blamed BCCI for the lack of opportunities and went on social media to display his grudge. He wrote on X, “If I have not been used for TOSSES and PRESENTATION for 23 years and new comers come in do pitch report, tosses, presentation even when Shastri was coaching, what do you think could be the reason.” My retirement is nothing great. But a story of tv production unfolds. Soon you will see the bigger picture — Laxman Sivaramakrishnan (@LaxmanSivarama1) March 20, 2026 Sivaramakrishnan said he was consistently overlooked for key on-air roles like toss duties and post-match presentation ceremonies despite being part of the setup for over two decades. Laxman Sivaramakrishnan announces retirement as commentator | Cricket News

2 min readMar 20, 2026 06:53 PM IST Former India leg-spinner and veteran cricket expert Laxman Sivaramakrishnan on Friday announced his retirement from the BCCI commentary panel, citing lack of opportunities to conduct toss and presentation ceremonies as reasons to end his broadcasting career. Sivaramakrishnan, who created ripples with his big, booming leg-spinners, googlies and and top spins as a 17-year-old in the early 1980s, expressed his frustration in a series of tweets, which suggested deep-seated dissatisfaction with his job. “I am retiring from commentary for BCCI,” Sivaramakrishnan wrote on his ‘X’ handle. “If I have not been used for TOSSES and PRESENTATION for 23 years and new comers come in do pitch report Tosses Presentation even when Shastri was coaching, what do you think could be the reason. “How does a company owning BCCI rights go down? How Harbhajan’s off-spin left Ricky Ponting feeling lonely and helpless

How Harbhajan’s off-spin left Ricky Ponting feeling lonely and helpless

The famous 2001 Test win against Australia was as much about “the” Dravid-Laxman partnership, as it was about how Harbhajan Singh’s closing traps sent the famed Aussie line-up on a 16-match-streak, going on 17, scrambling. It left Ricky Ponting especially haunted. “Alone, helpless,” are some of the feelings he could never forget, even though there was a bizzare take-away from his bowling that he holds dear and uses to lighten up the heart, talking about the Ides of March Test series loss, in his autobiography, ‘Ponting at the close of play.’ In his memoir written with additional credits to Geoff Armstrong, Ponting details the mood from the Aussie camp, and how his batting unravelled, under sustained pressure frim Harbhajan. But the Tour had started on another grim note. “There was a sombre mood in the Australian camp when the news (about Sir Don Bradman’s passing) came through, but it had been apparent to me from the first time I stepped foot in this country that Indians revered the Australian batsman and often knew more about …
