25 years since Harbhajan Singh’s hat-trick and Adam Gilchrist’s controversial lbw

25 years since Harbhajan Singh’s hat-trick and Adam Gilchrist’s controversial lbw

In March 2001, Harbhajan Singh was three years into his international career. Yet, in this period, he had lacked one standout moment that would kickstart his career and take it to the next level. On March 11, he would get that moment, albeit a bit fortuitously. India were 0-1 down in a three-match Test series against Australia, and on Day 1 of the second Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, found themselves in a bit of a hole at 236/3. It seemed like the hosts were in for yet another hard day in the office until Harbhajan began the 72nd over of the day. Off the second ball, he caught Ricky Ponting plumb in front as he tried to work a ball on the leg side. Next ball, Adam Gilchrist received the same fate as he was given out lbw on the first ball by umpire SK Bansal. Except, as Gilchrist recalled in his book “True Colours”, there was a massive slice of luck that had helped Harbhajan’s cause. “Eden Gardens in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) …

Saim Ayub lbw Jasprit Bumrah: The India-Pak short story with a twist that will worry South Africa | Cricket News

Saim Ayub lbw Jasprit Bumrah: The India-Pak short story with a twist that will worry South Africa | Cricket News

Not just his batsmanship, even the primal human instinct to dodge sudden danger failed Saim Ayub. If cricket, like gymnastics, had judges, they would be flashing 10s at Jasprit Bumrah’s perfect yorker to Saim. That dismissal from the India-Pakistan game in Colombo would soon become the most-watched, most-memed and most-layered clip of the World T20 so far. Such was the speed and precision of the Bumrah missile that it didn’t give the left-handed Pakistan opener time to even pull out his front-leg from harm’s way. As for Saim’s bat, it had barely reached his knees in its journey from shoulder-level to the feet. Saim lbw Bumrah – wasn’t just another wicket on the scoreboard, it was more. It was a short story with a past, subplots, intrigue, consequences and a twist at the end. There was something in it for everyone. For Pakistan, the Bumrah yorker was a brutal reminder to the widening gap in the cricket quality of the two nations that were once equals. Saim, 24, is the highest paid Pakistan T20 league …

The first India vs Bangladesh first Test in Chennai witnessed some really funny moments that were caught on stump mic and Pant had a major contribution in it. “Are Umpires Blind?” World Cup Winner Angry As Dinesh Karthik Survives Controversial LBW In RCB vs RR IPL Clash

The RCB vs RR IPL 2024 Eliminator saw a controversial moment as Dinesh Karthik was given not out off a controversial LBW call. The RCB batter was given LBW in the 15th over on the first ball that he faced. Karthik was given LBW off Avesh Khan‘s bowling. The full and straight delivery, that bent late, hit the pads. After much deliberation, Karthik went for DRS. It showed a big spike on UltraEdge, but it was hard to decipher if it was because the bat was hitting pad or the ball. The ball was close to the bat as well. RR players Avesh Khan and Riyan Parag looked shocked as Karthik was given not out. RR Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara fumed and went to talk to the umpires.  Almost all experts said that Karthik was out. “That decision in the live cricket match was absolutely terrible! Seriously, what was that all about?. It was so obvious that he was out! The qualification of the third umpire is seriously in question here. Are they blind or they have no knowledge …

Dale Steyn Wants Cricket To Go Baseball’s Way After Last Ball IPL 2024 LBW Sparks Debate

Rovman Powell was trapped LBW on the last ball with RR needing two runs vs SRH.© X (Twitter) SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) stole a win from the jaws of defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday, edging out Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a solitary run. With two needed off the last ball in a 202-run chase, Rovman Powell failed to connect with Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s low full toss and was trapped LBW. While Powell quickly took a review, the decision was upheld later by the TV umpire. However, even if the West Indies all-rounder had managed to had been successful with his review, it would not have changed the outcome of the match. For the unversed, as per ICC’s playing conditions, the Appendix D rule suggests that the ball becomes dead once the umpire has signalled out. “If following a Player Review request, an original decision of ‘Out’ is changed to ‘Not Out’, then the ball is still deemed to have become dead when the original decision was made. The batting side, while benefiting from …

Watch: Bangladesh captain Najmul Shanto’s bizarre lbw review after ball hits middle of Kusal Mendis’ bat | Cricket News

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s bizarre leg-before review of Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis has left fans confused during the second Test in Chattogram on Saturday. Bangladesh, who were asked to field on Day One, was left frustrated after another solid start by the visitors. After a 96-run opening stand, Dimuth Karunaratne and Mendis paired up for a long stand that deflated the Bangladesh attack after Lunch. In the 44th over, shortly before Tea, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam slid the ball in towards Mendis’ pads but the batter quickly adjusted to middle the ball towards the cover fielder. Skipper Shanto, standing at first slip, then moved into deliberation with his bowler and the fielders to consult for a review. While none of them were visibly interested, Shanto signalled for a DRS to on-field umpire Rod Tucker. The replays showed that the ball was nowhere in line with the pads as it rebounded comfortably off the middle of Mendis’ bat. “Gets Too Worried About LBW”: Ravichandran Ashwin On How He Won The Battles vs Ben Stokes

Ravichandran Ashwin said that Ben Stokes gets too worried about getting LBW.© BCCI Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed how Ben Stokes going into a shell allowed him to get the better of the England captain during the recently-concluded Test series. Ashwin picked up his 36th five-wicket haul in the final and final Test in Dharamsala, which India won by an innings and 64 runs. One of the wickets in his spell was that of Stokes just before the stroke of Lunch on Day 3. Aswhin bowled an arm ball to Stokes and the cherry went through the gap between bat and pad to rattle the stumps. Ashwin said that Stokes gets too worried about getting LBW and that’s exactly how he wanted to dismiss him. “I just felt like when Stokes gets into the very defensive shells, he allows you to come a littler fuller and wider on occasions because he’s worried so much about the LBW. He gets into the zones of being literally extra tight and he could just lunge forward …

DRS Controversy Strikes WPL 2024, UP Warriorz’s Chamari Athapaththu’s LBW Triggers Debate

A rather bizarre incident took place in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Monday after UP Warriorz’ Chamari Athapaththu was controversialy dismissed LBW. Facing a leg-spinner, Athapaththu was hit on the pads by Georgia Wareham of Royal Challengers Bangalore. While the on-field umpire gave the decision in the favour of the batting team, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana decided to go for a review. Surprisingly, the ball-tracking showed that the delivery from Wareham would’ve hit the stumps, suggesting it was a googly and not a leg-spinner. Seeing the decision converting from not-out to out, Athapaththu and her non-striking parnter Alyssa Healy were left perplexed, with the latter even shouting at the camera, saying ‘no way, no way’. The decision can be seen as the turning point in the fortunes for the UP franchise that went on to lose the contest by 23 runs. There is something super effed up going on in DRS. It is either hallucinating contact or skipping frames. Here is a video from today,s WPL game. Watch it carefully… pic.twitter.com/GttKAEISBF — Rahul …

HawkEye Founder Provides Explanation Over Joe Root’s LBW Controversy In Ranchi Test

There was a massive controversy surrounding Joe Root‘s LBW dismissal during the fourth Test match against India in Ranchi with several ex-cricketers even criticising the technology for what they thought was a erroneous DRS review. During England’s second innings, Ashwin’s delivery crashed into Root’s pads but the umpire was not convinced about the LBW shout. India went for a review and the replay showed that although it seemed like the majority of the ball pitched outside the leg-stump, the technology deemed it fair and gave it out. Some experts and fans were not happy with the decision but Paul Hawkins, the founder of HawkEye, provided an explanation regarding the controversial decision. Speaking with Simon Hughes on ‘The Analyst’ podcast, Hawkins explained the reason. “So, firstly, you measure the width of the stumps on each day. So that then becomes the line between what’s pitched in line and what’s not pitched in line. And it was a very close one. It’s one that in tennis, you will occasionally get a 0 or 0 scenario and tennis have …
