‘Cherry-picked photos’: House Republicans hit out as Democrats and Jeffries press DoJ to release full Epstein files | World News

Abigail Jackson said House Democrats are “selectively releasing cherry-picked photos. (Photo: X/@ATJackson47) House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries has urged the Trump administration to “comply with the law” and release the full set of Justice Department files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Speaking to reporters, Jeffries said his party would keep pressing the Department of Justice to meet the 19 December deadline set by Congress. His comments were reported by The Guardian. Jeffries said, “The so-called Department of Justice under the Trump administration needs to comply with the law. These people who are part of the Trump administration, including Donald Trump and JD Vance, all said for years that they wanted to release the Epstein files. Didn’t they come into office and do the exact opposite, obstruct and obfuscate, hide stuff from the American people? All we want is full transparency so that the American people can get the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.” Today’s release by House Democrats included 19 photos from Epstein’s estate. The photos, part of a larger cache of …

UK AI Copyright Rules May Backfire, Causing Biased Models & Low Creator Returns

Image: pichetw/Envato Elements Barring companies like OpenAI, Google, and Meta from training AI on copyrighted material in the UK may undermine model quality and economic impact, policy experts warn. They say that it will lead to bias in model outputs, undermining their effectiveness, while rightsholders are unlikely to receive the level of compensation they anticipate. The UK government opened a consultation in December 2024 to explore ways to protect the rights of artists, writers, and composers when creative content is used to train AI models. It outlined a system that permits AI developers to use online content for training unless the rightsholder explicitly opts out. Bodies representing the creative industries largely rejected this proposal, as it put the onus on creators to exclude their content rather than requiring AI developers to seek consent. Tech companies didn’t like it either, arguing that the system would make it difficult to determine which content they could legally use, restrict commercial applications, and demand excessive transparency. During a recent webinar hosted by the Centre for Data Innovation think tank, …

EU AI Rules Delay Tech Rollouts, But Civil Societies Says Safety Comes First

EU AI Rules Delay Tech Rollouts, But Civil Societies Says Safety Comes First

Tech companies are adamant that the regulation of artificial intelligence in the E.U. is preventing its citizens from accessing the latest and greatest products. However, a number of civil society groups feel otherwise, maintaining that AI developers need to produce products that uphold their customers’ safety and privacy. Some of tech giants’ delayed launches in EU There have been a number of instances where the launches of AI products in the E.U. have either been delayed or cancelled as a result of regulations. For instance, this week, Meta’s Llama 4 series of AI models was released everywhere except Europe. Its AI chatbots integrated into WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram only made it to the bloc 18 months after the U.S. Similarly, Google’s AI Overviews currently only appear in eight member states, having arrived nine months later than in the States, and both its Bard and Gemini models had delayed European releases. Apple Intelligence has only just become available in the E.U. with the release of iOS 18.4, after “regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets …
