Vishy Anand’s advice to Gukesh: ‘Lock yourself in room, and just ignore criticism… but some of it is legitimate’ | Chess News

3 min readApr 21, 2026 06:32 PM IST Current world champion D Gukesh has experienced a wretched run of form ever since he became the youngest world champion in chess history in December 2024. Not only have results been dire, Gukesh has also lost about 51 rating points from where he was when he became the 18th world champion in chess history. To further pile pressure on him, former world champions like Garry Kasparov and Magnus Carlsen have pointed out how Javokhir Sindarov, who will be the challenger to Gukesh for the world champion’s throne later this year, will be the favorite given his recent form that helped him win the Candidates tournament in Cyprus without a single defeat in 14 rounds. Some of the comments have appeared to undermine Gukesh’s credentials as a worthy world champion. Carlsen, in particular, commented on Gukesh’s “very obvious weaknesses when it comes to his understanding” in a recent event. Carlsen had even said that Sindarov would be the favourite against Gukesh. When five-time world champion and Gukesh’s mentor, …

Iran warns U.S. bases, assets ‘legitimate targets’ if it attacks

Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani. File | Photo Credit: Reuters Iran on Thursday (February 20, 2026) warned that U.S. bases, facilities, and assets would be “legitimate targets” if the United States follows through on its military threats and attacks. Amir Saeid Iravani, the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations, made the remarks in a letter to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the president of the Security Council that was seen by AFP. President Donald Trump has deployed warships, fighter jets, and other military hardware to the Middle East as he seeks to block Iran from building a nuclear bomb, something Tehran says it is not pursuing. The letter cited a social media post by Mr. Trump on Wednesday (February 18, 2026), where he said the United States may need to use U.K. military bases, including one on an Indian Ocean island, “should Iran decide not to make a deal.” “Such a belligerent statement by the President of the United States signals a real risk of military aggression, the consequences of which …

Nobel laureate Machado toes Trump’s line on Venezuela, says Maduro ‘is not the legitimate leader…’

Published on Nov 06, 2025 08:41 am IST Maria Corina Machado, who won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless fight for democracy in Venezuela, called President Trump’s strategy against Nicolás Maduro’s “narco-terrorist structure” necessary to protect Venezuelans and regional stability. In a powerful interview, Machado described how Venezuela has become a hub for Russian, Chinese, and Iranian operations—hosting armed drones, laundering for terrorist groups, and granting passports for extremist movements. She pledged that a transition to democracy would transform Venezuela into a US ally and regional security force, opening the economy to over $1.7 trillion in foreign investment and launching privatizations across oil, mining, and infrastructure. Machado also linked Venezuela’s liberation to freedom for Cuba and Nicaragua, calling her movement a historic threat to autocracy and narco-terrorism across the Americas.   News / Videos / Nobel laureate Machado toes Trump’s line on Venezuela, says Maduro ‘is not the legitimate leader…’ Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, or text presented here. Open To “Legitimate Return” Of Indians Living Illegally: S Jaishankar In US

Washington: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar, has clarified India’s stance, saying that New Delhi is open to the “legitimate return” of Indian nationals living ‘illegally’ abroad, including in the US. “We have always taken the view that if there are any of our citizens, who are not here legally, if we are sure that they are our citizens, we have always been open to their legitimate return to India. So it’s not a position unique to the US,” EAM Jaishankar said at a press conference in Washington DC on Wednesday (local time). He affirmed that India’s position on the issue has been “consistent” and “principled” and he did clearly convey this to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “I understand right now that there is a certain debate going on and a resulting sensitivity which is there. But we have been consistent, we have been very principled about it, and that remains our position, and I conveyed that very clearly to US State Secretary Marco Rubio,” he added. EAM Jaishankar, however, also emphasised that …

Hackers hijacked legitimate Chrome extensions to try to steal data

A cyberattack campaign inserted malicious code into multiple Chrome browser extensions as far back as mid-December, Reuters reported yesterday. The code appeared designed to steal browser cookies and authentication sessions, targeting “specific social media advertising and AI platforms,” according to a blog post from Cyberhaven, one of the companies that was targeted. Cyberhaven blames a phishing email for the attack, writing in a separate technical analysis post that the code appeared to specifically target Facebook Ads accounts. According to Reuters, security researcher Jaime Blasco believes the attack was “just random” and not targeting Cyberhaven specifically. He posted on X that he’d found VPN and AI extensions that contained the same malicious code that was inserted into Cyberhaven. Cyberhaven says hackers pushed an update (version 24.10.4) of its Cyberhaven data loss prevention extension containing the malicious code on Christmas Eve at 8:32PM ET. Cyberhaven says it discovered the code on December 25th at 6:54PM ET and removed it within an hour, but that the code was active until December 25th at 9:50PM ET. The company says …

Legitimate dissent can’t be equated with sedition: Rajasthan HC | Latest News India

The Rajasthan High Court, emphasising that legitimate dissent cannot be equated with sedition or anti-national acts, has quashed an FIR registered against Sikh preacher Tejender Pal Singh Timma who was charged under Sections 152 and 197(1)(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly endangering India’s unity and sovereignty through social media posts. The court observed that while the speech was critical of the government, it lacked the mens rea necessary to constitute an offence under Section 152. (HT Photo) Justice Arun Monga, while delivering the verdict on December 16, emphasised that laws restricting speech must be narrowly tailored. “There must be a direct and imminent connection between the speech and the likelihood of rebellion or secession to invoke such provisions,” the judge noted. Paris, who came to bowl the second over of the innings, bowled two dot balls to Steve Smith before losing the control on his bowling. Coming over the wicket, the left-arm pacer bowled a short ball outside off stump to Smith, but some beautiful wrist work from the batter saw the ball sailing over the backward square leg for a six. To make it look worse for Paris, the umpire signalled it a no-ball. On the free-hit, Paris sprayed a fuller ball down the leg stump. The ball swung away from Smith and ran away for a four.
