Darren Lehmann slams England for constant ‘sandpapergate’ jibe at Steve Smith

Darren Lehmann slams England for constant ‘sandpapergate’ jibe at Steve Smith

Former Australian batter and coach Darren Lehmann has slammed England for constantly reminding them of the “sandpapergate” incident involving batting talisman Steve Smith, saying that their behaviour felt like they had never done anything wrong in life. The former left-hander felt that folks in England never forgot what had happened in the past and admitted that the 36-year-old’s mental health might be affected by the frequent reminders. Lehmann was the coach of the Australian side when the incident took place in 2018 during a Test match against South Africa in Cape Town. Smith was banned for 12 months for his involvement in the role. “The abuse you get is daily. It is unbelievable. He [Smith] is playing every day. It would be worse for him. In England, they just don’t forget. It is like they have never done anything wrong in their life. It is only the ones that drink too much and carry on like pork chops,” Lehmann told ABC after the first Ashes Test. “It just borders on abuse, but we did the …

Juventus footballer Alisha Lehmann blasts trolls

Alisha Lehmann, the Swiss international for Juventus with 16 million followers on Instagram, has hit out against trolls who criticise her for wearing make-up during games. “I’m a girl, I’m feminine, and I like nails. I’m not a full-back, I don’t have to take throw-ins. People talk too much about these things; they don’t influence my performance on the pitch in any way. They always criticize me for these things, but I don’t care,” Alisha told the Sun. A few days ago she had talked about how the trolling amuses her. Story continues below this ad “People always hate that I wear makeup when I play, but I don’t understand what the big deal is. Sometimes I think it’s funny when people get upset. Because now I feel like I put on more lipstick the more they complain. I’m not hurting anyone. It’s my life, and it always will be,” she said on the YouTube channel ‘Small Talk’. However she was upset when a teammate criticised her for same reasons. “She said I spend too …

‘He is the best bowler I have ever seen live’: Darren Lehmann showers praise on Jasprit Bumrah | Cricket News

Former Australia player Darren Lehmann showered praise on Jasprit Bumrah, equating the pacer’s impact in the ongoing Border Gavaskar series with bowling greats of yesteryears. “I presume he (Bumrah) is the next captain when Rohit finishes. He did a really good job in Perth. He is the best bowler I have ever seen live. I have seen Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath and all but I have not seen a bowler have impact like him in a single series like Jasprit Bumrah has since Mitchell Johnson in 2013-14 Ashes win,” Lehmann said to PTI. “This is very similar as Bumrah already has 30 wickets. He has been outstanding to watch. He will do well when he gets a chance to lead India,” he added. Bumrah has been the standout performer in an under-fire Indian lineup, having already notched up 30 wickets in the ongoing series against Australia. The ex-Australia coach also said that even after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli call it a day, Indian cricket will still be in good hands. “Look whenever they decide …

Darren Lehmann hits out at chief selector George Bailey: ‘He’s too close to the team’ | Cricket News

Darren Lehmann hits out at chief selector George Bailey: ‘He’s too close to the team’ | Cricket News

Former Australia player and coach Darren Lehman has questioned Australian chairman of selectors George Bailey’s close-knit relationship with the current squad. Lehman pointed out that Bailey is not the right man to make the tough calls. “In my opinion, he’s too close to the team,” Lehmann said on ABC Sport. “I would like him sitting up watching in a selectors’ box somewhere and be able to make his own decisions. “My preference is the selector to be able to make decisions within a selection group and deliver a hard message if they have to. Make a hard decision if they have to for the betterment of Australian cricket. “Now, you can’t do that sometimes if you’re too close because you actually get too emotional and you care about the players. As a selector, I cared about the players, as a coach you do, but sometimes you actually get too close and you forget about what’s out there.” Lehman said as a selector Bailey is not strong even. “Or selectors aren’t strong enough to actually stop …

‘I think my statue (at Adelaide Oval) should be a little fatter’: Darren ‘Boof’ Lehmann bothered about being made to look thinner than he was | Cricket News

‘I think my statue (at Adelaide Oval) should be a little fatter’: Darren ‘Boof’ Lehmann bothered about being made to look thinner than he was | Cricket News

South Australian cricketers continue to spread chortles with their deadpan humour. After home town player Travis Head said he had jokingly told Md Siraj “well bowled” only to precipitate one right controversy, a former legend from these parts threw in a wicked line, quibbling about how his statue at the Adelaide Oval wasn’t accurately “fat” enough. The two time World Cup winner was renowned for being part of the most memorable World Cup finals of 1999 (he got winning boundary) and 2003 (he took winning catch), and was known for unfussedly slamming or Boofing his way as part of the middle order and his utility on the field and left arm spin bowling. On Sunday, Lehmann wearing a peach shirt and beige shorts joined in a conversation of some fans, at the Adelaide Oval sunning right next to his statue. ‘Boof’ as he is called, casually said “How are you lads?” strolling into their conversation – something unthinkable in India. The fans sipping their beer asked him what he thought of his own statue, standing …

Michael Vaughan slams Darren Lehmann for questioning Joe Root’s greatness | Cricket News

Former England captain Michael Vaughan disagrees with Darren Lehman’s comments on Joe Root being “rung below” Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith. Speaking on ABC, the former Australia coach has opined that since Root is yet to score a century in Australia, he should not be considered as an all-time great batter. “What a load of nonsense,” Vaughan said on SEN Mornings in response to Lehmann. “We’re talking about a player that could quite easily – if he stays fit and that back stays strong – surpass Sachin Tendulkar in a few years (for overall Test runs). “Just because he’s not got a hundred here in Australia, this isn’t the be-all and end-all. “You’d like to come here, and score runs. But he’ll come next year in the way that he’s playing in this England side now at four – playing the Joe Root way rather than the Bazball way – I’ve got a sneaky feeling that might come back to haunt Darren next year. “He might get a couple of hundreds next year …

KL Rahul’s controversial dismissal: Darren Lehmann says Cricket Australia should have paid for ‘hot spot’ | Cricket News

KL Rahul’s controversial dismissal: Darren Lehmann says Cricket Australia should have paid for ‘hot spot’ | Cricket News

KL Rahul’s dismissal sparked controversy on Day 1 of the Perth Test after TV umpire overrules on-field call despite apparent lack of evidence. Kl Rahul fought hard for his 26, before he was given out by the third umpire Richard Illingworth. However, initially the on field umpire, Richard Kettleborough, called it not out. While replays showed there was a sound as the ball passed the Rahul’s bat before going through to Alex Carey, but it also showed that Rahul’s bat was hitting with his front pad as the ball passed through. Following the dismissal, former Australia coach Darren Lehmann has slammed Cricket Australia for not making hot spot available for the umpires. “CA (Cricket Australia) should’ve actually paid for the hot spot then you’d have no problems there,” he said on commentary for ABC Sport. “I just think we should have hot spot and I’m not worried about the cost. Broadcasters, both TV and radio, they’re paying the money for the broadcasting rights, so they’ve got the money there to do it. If we’re going …

‘Phillip Hughes was set for Test comeback before tragic passing’, former AUS coach Lehmann reveals ahead of 10th death anniversary | Cricket News

As the cricket fraternity braces to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the tragic passing of Phillip Hughes later this month, former Australia head coach Daren Lehmann made a painful revelation that the young left-hander had won a Test recall shortly before he succumbed to a vicious bouncer at the Sydney Cricket Ground. On November 25, 2014, a day that sent shockwaves across the cricketing globe, the 25-year-old Hughes was batting for South Australia when he was struck on the neck during a Sheffield Shield match. Hughes passed away on November 27, three days short of his 26th birthday, due to a rare cerebral haemorrhage. However, the then-Australia coach Lehmann, has now revealed that the team management was about to disclose to Hughes about his Test recall before the heartbreaking incident. Hughes was out of the Test side for nearly 18 months after the 2013 Ashes before he was slated for a comeback in place of Chris Rogers in the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, said Lehmann in a Code Sports special report. “Yeah, we’d had a meeting, …
