Delhi Environment Minister thanks people who gave firecrackers a miss; BJP claims AAP ‘defamed’ Sanatan community | Delhi News

Even as Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai thanked residents who gave firecrackers a miss on Diwali this year for relatively less pollution a day after the festival, the BJP Friday said the air quality index (AQI) shows that the AAP government’s “conspiracy to defame the Sanatan tradition of lighting firecrackers on Diwali in the name of pollution” had failed again. The city’s AQI levels had breached the 350-mark four days ago, with forecasts to the effect that this was expected to go beyond 400 the day after Diwali due to pollution caused by firecrackers. “But I want to thank the people of Delhi. Due to their efforts, AQI has stabilised at 360. Pollution levels have remained below the severe category, for which I congratulate them,” Rai said. “Some people burst firecrackers; I want to request them, just like the entire Delhi is engaged in observing festivities alongside saving people’s lives, if you, too, had cooperated, the level of pollution would have been lower,” he added.
