Lok Sabha elections: In Bihar, BJP drops 3 MPs, including MoS Choubey | Elections News

THE BJP dropped three MPs — Union Minister of State Ashwini Kumar Choubey (Buxar), Ajay Nishad (Muzaffarpur) and Chhedi Paswan (Sasaram) — in its list of 17 Bihar candidates declared Sunday. BJP fielded Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Thakur, son of former Union minister C P Thakur, from Nawada, where LJP’s Chandan Kumar was elected in 2019. While the BJP retained MPs on 13 seats, it sprang a surprise by replacing veteran Choubey with Mithilesh Tiwari in Buxar. The party also replaced Sasaram MP Paswan with Shivesh Ram, son of former MP Munilal Ram. Muzaffarpur MP Nishad was replaced by Raj Bhushan Nishad. The seat-sharing announcement by the BJP now seals any chances of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) of Mukesh Sahani being part of the NDA. Several veterans, however, retained their candidature amid speculation because of the age factor. Giriraj Singh (71) will fight again from Begusarai and Radha Mohan Singh (74) will again contest from East Champaran. Pataliputra MP Ram Kripal Yadav would take on Lalu Prasad’s eldest daughter Misa Bharati, whom he has defeated …

It Is Official. BJP Picks Chirag Paswan, Dumps His Uncle Pashupati Paras

New Delhi: The BJP announcement of seat sharing in Bihar has publicly cut out Pashupati Paras — the estranged uncle of Chirag Paswan who controls a faction of the Lok Janshakti Party — leaving him completely isolated. The 71-year-old, who three years ago appeared to hold all the cards, splitting the LJP and being rewarded with a berth in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet, is now fighting for political survival. Sources said Mr Paras will step down from the Union cabinet and his MLAs have touched base with the INDIA alliance, which a week ago, was jockeying for an alliance with Chirag Paswan. Mr Paras had warned about this last week, saying he is “free to go anywhere”. Mr Paswan, who once described himself as devoted as “Hanuman” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has stuck to the NDA, getting only five seats of the six he aspired for. The list, however, contains Hajipur, the seat that once belonged to his late father, Ram Vilas Paswan.    Pashupati Paras, the brother of Ram Vilas Paswan, is …

Chirag Paswan’s LJP Agrees Seat-Share Deal With BJP, “Details Soon”

BJP President JP Nadda and Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan. New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Lok Janshakti Party have agreed a seat-share deal for the Lok Sabha election in Bihar, LJP boss Chirag Paswan said Wednesday. Details will be released at an “appropriate time”, Mr Paswan said, sharing images on X of himself in talks with BJP chief JP Nadda. Confirmation of the BJP-LJP deal comes after speculation last week the INDIA bloc had opened talks with Mr Paswan’s party. Sources said the LJP had been offered eight seats. These would have included the six won in 2019 election and, as a bonus, tickets for two constituencies in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. Sources also said the offer included a second sweetener – Mr Paswan would not have to share the seats with his estranged uncle. The BJP deal reportedly had such a clause. However, the final deal – with the BJP – could see the LJP settle for fewer seats. As a member of the NDA, today in a meeting with BJP …

INDIA Bloc Attempts Coup In Bihar, Makes 8-Seat Offer To BJP Ally: Sources

The NDA had won 39 out of 40 seats in Bihar in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. New Delhi: As the seat-sharing tussle within the NDA over Bihar continues, the INDIA alliance has made a move on the political chessboard and offered eight Lok Sabha seats in the state and two in Uttar Pradesh to Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan, sources have told NDTV.  The proposal may prove to be tempting to Mr Paswan, who is reportedly being offered only six Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar by the NDA and even those come with a caveat – the seats will have to be split with his uncle and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party chief Pashupati Paras, who he is not on the best terms with.  The INDIA alliance offer, on the other hand, includes all six seats that the undivided Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) had contested in 2019, and a deal sweetener in the form of two additional constituencies in Bihar and two in Uttar Pradesh, the sources said.  The Lok Janshakti Party …
