The national capital sweltered on Saturday, recording its highest maximum temperature of the year so far. Several weather stations reported heatwave conditions across the city, even as the IMD has forecast rain from Monday to Wednesday, bringing some hope of respite to Delhiites. Polling for high-stakes electoral battles in two States and a Union Territory began on Thursday at 7 am. Voting for 126 seats in Assam, 140 in Keralam, and 30 in Puducherry is underway. The counting of votes will take place on May 4. In Keralam, over 2.6 crore electors will decide the fate of 883 candidates across 140 constituencies. Of the 2,69,53,644 registered voters across the state, there are 1,38,27,319 women voters, and the number of male voters stands at 1,31,26,048. Whereas in 2024, 181 organs were transplanted from a pool of 70 donors in Pune, officials said. Delhi logged the lowest average air quality index (AQI) reading for the period between January-November since 2018, with the exception of lockdown year 2020, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said Sunday. The average AQI for the January-November period this year was 187.(ANI Video Grab) According to the CAQM, only three days between January and November saw the daily average AQI exceed the ‘severe’ category. The average AQI reading for the period between January-November this year was 187, in comparison to 201 in 2024, 190 in 2023, 199 in 2022, 197 in 2021, 172 in 2020, 203 in 2019 and 213 in 2018, the CAQM said in a statement, according to a PTI news agency report. Illegal crypto mining operations in Malaysia spiked by 300 percent between 2018 and 2024, Malaysian publication The Star reported Monday, citing the country’s largest electricity utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). In 2018, a total of 610 illegal mining cases were reportedly identified in Malaysia and the number spiked to 2,397 last year. Law enforcement authorities in the country are said to have initiated efforts to identify and bust locations they suspect are origins of unauthorised mining operations. Crypto mining is a power-intensive process requiring miners to solve complicated algorithms on advanced computers, that need to be connected to electricity at all times. Bitcoin is the most commonly mined cryptocurrency, that allows miners to earn rewards for generating new tokens. Regions where crypto mining clusters are active often suffer from electricity shortage as well as outages.
