The Election Commission on Thursday released 42 Statistical Reports on Lok Sabha Elections 2024 and 14 reports each on four state assembly elections held simultaneously. In the report, the EC said that women candidates contesting 2024 Lok Sabha polls were 800 as against 726 in 2019. The EC said these 100 statistical reports will be a treasure trove for academicians, researchers, election watchers worldwide for in-depth analysis and policy insights. “The Lok Sabha Elections creates world record with 64.64 crore voters exercising their franchise. Voter turnout in the five Lok Sabha seats of J&K, where polling ended on May 25, was 58.46% — over 13 percentage points higher than the turnout in 2019 Lok Sabha elections (44.37%), Election Commission said Monday. “In a massive stride for India’s electoral polity, J&K witnessed its highest poll participation in the last 35 years. The combined voter turnout at the polling stations for the entire UT (5 Lok Sabha seats) was 58.46%…This significant participation is a testament to the robust democratic spirit and civic engagement of the people in the region,” the EC said in a statement. The three seats in the Kashmir (Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri) had a turnout of 50.86% — 30 percentage points higher than the 2019 turnout of 19.16%.
