The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a lookout notice against Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas in connection with a money laundering case, an official said on Tuesday. Before the lookout notice, the ED had conducted raids at two premises of the Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner. (PTI) The lookout notice was circulated across airports, railway stations and other such transit points to order to prevent possible attempts by the official to leave the country. This came after Biswas evaded multiple summonses issued by the agency during the probe, with the ED saying he had in the past been served notices to appear at least five times. Surya, 24, of Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi. The inmate, official sources said, was found missing at the time of evening roll call on Saturday (December 21, 2024). Subsequently, the prison authorities lodged a complaint with the Tiruppur North police. Initial investigations indicated that Surya, who was arrested and remanded in a case of chain-snatching in Nallur limits last month, had escaped in the duration of a power outage, when the CCTV cameras got switched off. The Delhi High Court has set aside a lookout circular issued against an Australian national accused of tearing down two pro-Palestine posters at Fort Kochi in April, stating that the underlying FIR has already been quashed. The lookout circular was issued against Zara Michelle Shilansky by the Bureau of Immigration of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the request of the Kerala Government in relation to an FIR registered on April 16 under Indian Penal Code section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot). The FIR was quashed by the Kerala High Court on September 10. Disposing of Shilansky’s plea, Justice Sanjeev Narula recorded on Wednesday that “since the underlying FIR has been quashed, the LOC issued against Petitioner cannot survive”. In August, the Delhi High Court suspended the lookout circular on receiving an undertaking from her that she would return to India as and when directed and after she deposited Rs 5 lakh. Police have arrested one of the three men accused in the Pune gang-rape case last week, a senior officer said on Friday. According to news agency PTI, the 21-year-old woman was raped in the Bopdev Ghar area on the outskirts of the city by the three accused on the night of October 3. Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said one suspect has been arrested for the gang-rape and a search was on for his two associates involved in the crime. The survivor`s male friend was also assaulted by the trio, police said earlier. Police in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district has issued a Look Out Circular against contractor Jaydeep Apte in connection with the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue at Rajkot fort, officials said on Tuesday. An LOC is issued to airports and all other exit points to stop a person from fleeing the country. Apte, a Thane-based sculptor, had executed the contract to make the statue. Following its collapse on August 26, less than nine months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on the coastal fort, Malvan police registered a case against Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil for negligence and other offences.
