Western Railway to launch digital lounges with ‘productive and comfortable space’ for passengers | Mumbai News
The Western Railway (WR) is set to pilot digital lounges at select long-distance express train stations, modelled after the comfort and convenience of airport lounges, to make the waiting time for passengers, particularly for long-distance travellers, more efficient. Initially, Mumbai Central and Borivali stations in the Mumbai suburban area, and Surat and Vadodara stations in Gujarat will feature these lounges. The lounge facility will be developed in place of existing waiting areas with upgraded facilities for users. “Train passengers typically arrive one to two hours before their scheduled departure. The lounge will provide them with a productive and comfortable space during this wait,” said a Western Railway official. According to the official, the lounges will offer a noise-free environment where passengers can relax, work, or wait for their trains in comfort. The lounges will be equipped with facilities such as charging stations for laptops, mobiles, and other gadgets, and food services. However, the plan is still at a conceptual stage.
