Wayanad, where Priyanka made poll debut, records lowest-ever voter turnout since constituency’s formation | Thiruvananthapuram News

Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, where Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has her maiden electoral contest, recorded a voter turnout of 64.72 percent in the by-election held Wednesday. This was the lowest polling percentage recorded in the constituency since its formation in 2009. The by-election was necessitated after Opposition Leader and Priyanka’s brother Rahul Gandhi vacated the Kerala turf and retained Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh. Bypoll was also held for the Chelakkara assembly seat in Thrissur, where voter turnout was 72.54 per cent. Wayanad had recorded 72.92 percent of polling in the general election held earlier this year against 80.33 percent in 2019, when Rahul Gandhi had fought from the seat for the first time. This time, his sister Priyanka is pitted against senior CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri and BJP’s young face Navya Haridas. The steep fall in polling percentage comes at a time Congress, which appears to have no concerns about poll outcome, has been campaigning “for a majority of 5 lakh votes” for Priyanka. To ensure the margin, AICC general secretaries KC Venugopal and …

However, he made a rather interesting observation after India collapsed to 46 all out in the first Test against New Zealand. Writing on his column in The Times UK, Atherton tried to find the differences between India’s innings and England’s, when the latter were bowled out for the same score by West Indies in 1994. He also pointed out that Virat Kohli has a unique thing in his CV. “Virat Kohli’s glittering CV now includes being a part of two of India’s three lowest-ever scores,” wrote Atherton. “India’s 46 all out in the first Test against New Zealand came only four years after their lowest-ever score, 36 all out against Australia in Adelaide. India’s batsmen plumbed the depths again before the previous embarrassment had slipped from memory,” he wrote. Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah are the three Indian cricketers who suffered the ignonimy of being involved in …

Sunrisers Hyderabad score lowest-ever total in IPL final history, post 113 against Kolkata Knight Riders | Ipl News

Sunrisers Hyderabad had the dubious record of becoming the team to score the lowest-ever total in an Indian Premier League final when they posted 113 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk on Sunday. With that, SRH leaped over the 123/9 which Chennai Super Kings had posted against Mumbai Indians in the 2013 final. The KKR pacers proved to be too much for the SRH top order, who were reduced to 47/4 after seven overs. Mitchell Starc started off the proceedings by removing Abhishek Sharma in the first over for just 2 with a ripper of a delivery. Meanwhile, Vaibhav Arora got the better of Travis Head in the next over as the Australian nicked behind Gurbaz for a duck. Starc would strike again to remove Rahul Tripathi for 9 while Harshit Rana struck in his first over to snap Nitish Kumar Reddy for 13. Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen tried to build a partnership but the former was sent back by Starc for 20 while Shahbaz Ahmed couldn’t last long as well scoring just …
