Uddhav Thackeray loyalists miffed about ‘special treatment’ to outsiders

Following the defection of MLC Sachin Ahir on Tuesday to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, the simmering unrest among the Shiv Sena (UBT)’s old guard has come to the fore. A day after party MLC Sunil Shinde expressed need for introspection on why the defections were happening, MP Sanjay Raut said loyal workers were concerned about the “special treatment” given to certain leaders, including outsiders like Ahir, while they were taken for granted. Defected Sena (UBT) MLC Sachin Ahir attened the monsoon session of the state legislature on Wednesday. (Bhushan Koyande/HT) Disgruntled Sena (UBT) workers had been pointing out that Ahir, who joined the undivided Sena only seven years ago, was given several plum posts in the party. Although he won from the Sena’s traditional stronghold, Worli, only once in 2009, he practically dominated the party’s activities there. This had irked local leaders, including Sunil Shinde and former mayor Kishori Pedenekar. After Ahir quit the party, Sunil Shinde reminded the leadership that it had preferred Ahir over him and other local leaders while handling Worli affairs. …

Revanth Reddy is building his own band of loyalists

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. File | Photo Credit: The Hindu The Chief Minister of Telangana Revanth Reddy appears to be steadily consolidating his position within both the Telangana government and the State unit of the Congress, sending clear signals that he intends to shape the party’s future leadership with young faces and create his own band of loyalists. This has been apparent in his appointment of party Whips to the Assembly and the Legislative Council. BJP loyalists protest against party in Nashik for giving tickets to ‘outsiders`

Disgruntled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) loyalists in Nashik continued their protest on Thursday, expressing anger over the denial of civic poll tickets to long-time party members and their allotment to candidates who recently joined the party, news agency PTI reported. The protesters held demonstrations outside the BJP office at Nashik Road, shouting slogans against Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Rahul Dhikle. When city party president Sunil Kedar attempted to pacify the activists, they ‘gheraoed’ him, demanding explanations for being denied candidature for the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) Elections. They questioned the basis on which others were granted poll tickets and accused the party of giving them false assurances. In a symbolic gesture, some protesters presented carrots to Kedar, highlighting their grievance over the party’s promises, PTI reported. Later, activists from Union Minister Ramdas Athawale’s Republican Party of India (Athawale) also arrived at the BJP office, raising slogans against the ruling Mahayuti alliance for allegedly sidelining their party during seat-sharing talks. Following these incidents, the BJP office was locked, and Kedar exited amid police protection. Security …

On IPL’s big day, two-minute silence for an English amateur, salute to cricket’s unpaid loyalists | Cricket News

Last week The Times, London, carried a heartrending obit of Jonathan Mills, a 55-year-old club cricketer. Written by his brother Daniel, the tribute was for the sales executive of a beauty company for whom cricket wasn’t about playing for his country or county. A passionately committed cricketer, Jonathan’s life and career choices were dictated by season and schedule of his beloved Brookweald Cricket Club. He scored two hundreds as a long-time opener of the club that, as claimed by its website, happens to be in the prettiest part of Essex, serves the best tea in the league, has its own bar and is the perfect place to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon. It’s in this picturesque surrounding that Jonathan got the final hundred of his life, which according to his brother was straight from the “golden age of schoolboy magazine stories”. Why remember an English amateur on a day when the game’s two biggest icons face-off in the world’s biggest and glitziest league? The pull of the quaint village cricket greens is eternal but why …
