Luxembourg a very important partner for India, says EAM Jaishankar

India views Luxembourg as a “very important” partner, and the two countries can enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, including fintech, space, and AI, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday. Jaishankar, who is on a six-day visit to France and Luxembourg, held talks with Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden on “growing” bilateral cooperation, including in finance, investment and tech sectors. He also held delegation-level talks with Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg. Luxembourg has raised a red flag against the misuse of cryptocurrency firms. In its 2025 National Risk Assessment (NRA) report, the country said that crypto companies were at a high risk of being exploited by money launderers. The report comes at a time when the crypto sector is showing gradual signs of expansion in the European nation, touted as the richest country in the world. Several other countries have also raised crypto-related concerns similar to the ones noted in the NRA report. The NRA report said that Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) were capable of facilitating crypto-based private transactions internationally, which made them highly vulnerable to be exploits by financial criminals. “The use of crypto assets, especially with regard to investment fraud, has become more prevalent. Factors such as the increase in value of certain crypto assets and growing media attention around crypto investments are also contributing factors to the steady surge in investment fraud cases,” the NRA said. Standard Chartered Introduces Crypto Service in Luxembourg Under MiCA Regulations

Standard Chartered bank announced on Thursday that it is expanding its crypto services to the European Union (EU). The London, UK-headquartered bank previously debuted its crypto-related services in Luxembourg. This makes Luxembourg the entry point for the bank into the EU market. The development comes after the EU’s crypto guidelines, known as the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), went into effect on December 30, 2024. The bank could launch these services in other EU countries, but it has yet to reveal any expansion plans. The bank will now offer crypto and digital asset custody services to its customers in Luxembourg, a post from the bank said. Data by Worldometer claims that the current population of Luxembourg is over 676,000.
