Stalin on Saturday (June 6, 2026) called upon party workers to take a pledge to bring down the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government, which he said was surviving with the support of parties that were once part of the DMK-led alliance and had won seats in the Assembly. “The TVK government is, in a way, being sustained by our support because our former alliance partners are backing it. These are the very parties that wanted us to win the election. Their leaders themselves clarified that they had consulted me before extending support to the TVK. Kolkata: The BJP whitewashed the Trinamool Congress in nine of the 23 districts of West Bengal, racking up all 68 seats these regions had to offer on its way to paint the State saffron in the watershed election. As the party marched to power in the State for the first time, the mandate in these nine districts – from north Bengal’s hills to the central part of the south – has shown that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had correctly predicted in his campaign trail that TMC would fail to open its account in multiple districts. The BJP won 206 seats to secure more than a two-thirds majority in the West Bengal Assembly polls, ending the TMC’s 15-year rule as it was decimated to around 80 in the 294-strong Assembly. The result also marked the BJP’s decisive breach of its last major eastern bastion, completing its saffron arc across ‘Anga, Banga and Kalinga’ (Bihar, Bengal and Odisha). At the very top of the BJP’s performance chart is the Purba Medinipur district, where its most prominent poll …

The ED had earlier called SDPI as the “political front” of PFI. The PFI was banned by the Union government in September 2022 calling it an “unlawful association”. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday alleged that a parliamentary amendment supported by the AIADMK resulted in handing over the rights of auctioning the Tungsten mining to the Centre. “The AIADMK supported the amendment and the DMK opposed it,” he said, rejecting the AIADMK MP Thambi Durai’s claim that he had only supported a bill seeking to allow the private sector to mine six out of 12 atomic minerals and not the Tungsten project. The Chief Minister in his social media message said Tamil Nadu had not come forward to implement the Tungsten project at Arittapatti in Madurai. “Many states retained the rights to auction mines. When the Centre introduced an amendment to deprive the states of their rights, the AIADMK supported the Bill,” he said. Mr Stalin said the betrayal of the AIADMK had been exposed. “It has supported the Centre in Delhi and is opposing it in Tamil Nadu. It will not cut ice with people,” he said. “Which amendment Mr Thambi Durai supported? It is not a betrayal to snatch away …
