M.V. Rajesh assumes charge as IHRD Director

M.V. Rajesh has assumed charge as the Director of the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), functioning under the Higher Education Department. Dr. Rajesh was previously the principal of the College of Engineering, Poonjar. An alumnus of IHRD’s Government Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, he holds a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering, an M.Tech from the National Institute of Technology Calicut, and a Ph.D. from the Cochin University of Science and Technology. He brings with him over three decades of teaching and academic administrative experience in IHRD institutions, an official release stated. Dr. Rajesh has held several key positions in professional bodies such as IEEE Kochi subsection, IETE Kochi centre, and the Computer Society of India. He has also served as the Kerala State student coordinator of the Computer Society of India. Presently, he serves as the chairperson of the Strategic Initiative on Academic Engagement of IEEE Kerala section, chief editor of the International Journal of Science, Technology and Innovation, and an advisor to the IEEE Signal Processing Society. M.V. Govindan says no one will be shielded in Sabarimala gold theft case

Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan on Sunday said that no one would be protected in the ongoing investigation into the alleged gold theft at the Sabarimala temple. Not a single grain of gold should go missing from the temple, he added. Reacting to the bail granted to Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru in the case, Mr. Govindan said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe was still under way and that conclusions on charges could be drawn only after its completion. “Our position is clear. Whoever is involved will be arrested. No one will be shielded,“ he said. ‘Politicising issue’ He alleged that Congress leaders were also linked to the case and criticised what he termed selective outrage. Referring to earlier allegations surrounding a missing ritual pot, he claimed there had been little discussion when accusations were raised against Congress leader K.C. Govindan on Sunday (October 20, 2024) conveyed the ruling party’s unflinching support to the family of deceased Additional District Magistrate, Kannur, Naveen Babu.  Babu’s suspected death by suicide on the eve of his transfer to Pathanamthitta following allegedly disparaging public remarks against him by CPI(M) leader and former District Panchayat President, Kannur, P.P. Divya, had triggered a political storm. Babu’s death caused a public outcry and wrongfooted the ruling party and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the run-up to the crucial by-elections in Chelakkara and Palakkad Assembly constituencies and the Wayanad Lok Sabha segment in November.  Mr Govindan said the police and revenue department were investigating Ms. Divya and others concerning the unnatural death. Govindan has defended the transfer of Kerala ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar from Law and Order duties, describing it as “a timely decision.” Responding to questions from the media in Kannur on Monday (October 7, 2024) on whether the action against Mr. Ajith Kumar was punitive, Mr. Govindan insisted that the Kerala government had “kept its word” by taking appropriate steps. However, his response was rather ambiguous, remarking, “You can judge it as yes or no.” Mr. Govindan clarified that there was no pressure from the Communist Party of India (CPI) regarding the decision, emphasising that the government would act based on the findings of the ongoing inquiry report. He assured that the decision to transfer the ADGP would be implemented in line with the report’s recommendations.
