The all-rounder Wessly Madhevere and fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri have been recalled to the Zimbabwe squad for India T20Is, while wk-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga earned his maiden T20I call-up. Sikandar Raza-led 15-member squad will take on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions starting on July 23. Newman Nyamhuri is yet to make his T20I debut for Zimbabwe after returning on the back of a niggle that ruled him out of the Bangladesh series. Tanaka Chivanga, who was named as a replacement for Nyamhuri, has been retained in the squad. Along with the ban, the duo were fined 50 per cent of their salaries as well. Madhevere and Mavuta’s rehabilitation was overseen by ZC’s medical personnel and they had been ordered to train in the high-performance programme. Zimbabwe Cricket released a statement to announce that the duo cleared the drug tests after the completion of their suspension period. “Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has cleared national team players Wessly Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta to return to competitive cricket after serving their four-month suspension over drug use. Both of them were confirmed as ‘clean’ after they returned positive results for drug tests conducted upon completion of their suspension period,” ZC said in a statement. ZC Bans Madhevere and Mavuta for using Recreational Drugs

Zimbabwe Cricket Board has imposed a four-month ban on allrounders Wessly Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta for drug use. ZC Bans Madhevere and Mavuta Wessly Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta have been fined 50% of their salaries for three months with effect from January 2024. Batter Kevin Kasuza who played the last of his seven Tests in 2021, has also been suspended from all cricket activities after he tested positive for the usage of drugs. During the dope test, the allrounders were tested positive for drug usage and the sanctions were given after the hearing last Wednesday when they admitted the charges of “breaching the ZC Employment Code of Conduct.” They have been sentenced to attend a rehabilitation process which will be overseen by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board’s medical team. “In taking the decision, the Committee also considered some mitigating factors, with both players showing remorse and having already started working on withdrawing from the habit and getting their systems clean,” ZC said in a statement.
