In an interesting piece of news, Madhya Pradesh Police has filed two FIRs, one against a female beggar and another against an unidentified person for giving alms to the beggar in the city of Indore. The case was registered under Section 223 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which provides for punishment upto one year in jail and/or fine upto Rs 5,000 against persons disobeying the order issued by a public servant. The district collector had issued orders to file criminal cases against those involved in begging and also against those giving alms to beggars. The FIRs were filed on the basis of a complaint filed by Indore’s Beggary Eradication Team.  This follows a pilot project of Union Social Justice Ministry being implemented to make 10 cities of India, including Indore, “beggar-free”. Taking cognisance of petitions and complaints from 52 villages on non-recognition of forest rights and attempts at forceful eviction in and around Rani Durgavati Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) has directed the Madhya Pradesh government to examine the matter and resolve it in consultation with state forest departments and concerned district collectors. The Centre wrote to the Madhya Pradesh tribal welfare department on December 23 after receiving representations from 52 gram sabhas from Damoh, Narsinghpur and Sagar districts. In the representations, it has been alleged that after Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve was notified in September 2023, forest rights claims were denied and villagers were pushed to relocate outside the reserve forcefully, in violation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, and Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA), 2006. Further, villagers have been restricted from accessing forest resources, forest produce and farms, it has been alleged. “It may be noted that alienation of the communities from exercising their rights as stipulated under FRA, 2006, is a violation of the Act. Madhya Pradesh police found four dead bodies inside the septic tank of a house in Singrauli district on Saturday, suspecting it to be a case of multiple murders. Police said that further investigation into the matter was underway. The discovery of the bodies came after a local sounded concerns about a foul smell emanating from the septic tank, Additional Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar Verma said. While two of the bodies have been identified as those of one 30-year-old Suresh Prajapati, son of the house owner Hari Prasad Prajapati, and Karan Halwai, the ASP said, the other two are yet to be identified. According to preliminary investigation, both Suresh and Karan had visited the house on January 1 for a party with their friends. Further investigation is underway, say cops (Representational) Raisen: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a truck driver while his two associates restrained the teenager’s male friend in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district, an official said on Sunday. Police have arrested two persons, including the truck driver, in connection with the alleged crime committed in Siyarmau forest on Silwani-Sagar Road, some 110 km from the district headquarters, on Saturday evening, he said. The teenager and her 21-year-old male friend were returning after visiting the Vandevi temple in the area when they parked their two-wheeler and entered the forest, said Silwani’s Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Anil Maurya. At the same time, a truck broke down following which its driver, later identified as Sanju Adivasi (21), and his two friends also went inside the forest, where they spotted the girl and her friend.
