Kumbh stampede inquiry commission will now also look into loss of life and property, U.P. government tells Allahabad HC

Over 30 people died in the stampede on January 29. The State government constituted the three-member commission under the chairmanship of Justice Harsh Kumar, a former judge of the Allahabad High Court. Besides the task of ascertaining what led to the stampede, the commission was also asked to give suggestions to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. The State made the submissions before the bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Kshitij Shailendra. New Traffic Rules In Prayagraj Ahead Of Next Big Day At Maha Kumbh

New Delhi: Prayagraj authorities have issued new restrictions ahead of the next big day at the Maha Kumbh. As the city expects crores of devotees to take a dip on the occasion of Maghi Purnima – the fifth of the six sacred days for the ‘snan’ – cops have clamped down on traffic movement in the city. The restrictions follow a stampede that killed at least 30 pilgrims during the early hours of January 29. The fair area has been declared a no-vehicle zone since 4 am on Tuesday amid efforts to reduce crowding. This will be extended to the entire city from 5 pm onwards. Different parking zones have been designated for different routes, where the devotees coming from outside the city must park their vehicles. The traffic arrangement will remain in force until devotees smoothly exit the fair area tomorrow. Essential and emergency services have been exempted from the restrictions. He inquired about their well-being from the doctors and directed the medical staff to provide them with the best possible care, an official statement said. Thirty people were killed and 60 others were injured during a stampede in the Maha Kumbh early January 29. “The state government is concerned about all the devotees. There will be no shortage in their treatment and comfort,” Yogi Adityanath was quoted as saying in the statement. Yogi Adityanath also directed the hospital administration to ensure the safe return of the injured to their home towns.
