The government of Karnataka is ready to take up work in the Mahadayi basin. If the Union government were to issue all the necessary clearances today, we will start work tomorrow,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said at an event to distribute agricultural implements worth ₹400 crore to farmers from Belagavi revenue division, on April 20. “A major problem in farming is the reduced rainfall and dry land farming. Karnataka may take an all-party delegation to PM to seek justice on Mahadayi issue

At the post-Cabinet meeting press briefing, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil said the recently held 79th meeting of the wildlife board decided to defer the decision on the Mahadayi issue. The National Tiger Conservation Authority’s (NTCA) opinion was sought on the matter, which cited the matter as sub judice and did not give its opinion to the board. “However, the board has approved the 400-kV power line in Goa that will require 435 acres of forest land. National Board for Wildlife defers decision on Kalasa-Banduri project in Mahadayi basin

In a meeting held in New Delhi on January 30, the NBWL’s standing committee cited multiple reasons such as the matter pending before courts and non-receipt of approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority as the reasons for the postponement of the decision. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the Chairman of the NBWL, Yogendra Yadav, Minister for Forests and Ecology, is the chairman of the standing committee. Mr. Yadav headed the January 30 meeting. Panaji: The Nationalist Congress Party on Tuesday alleged that the ruling BJP in Goa was fooling the people of the state on the Mahadayi river dispute with neighbouring Karnataka. Earlier in the day, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa claimed that Karnataka officials stopped them when they visited the site of the proposed dams on the river’s tributaries that have become a bone of contention between the two states. “By declaring that they will start a signature campaign to ask the Central Government to withdraw approval given to Karnataka’s DPR (detailed project reports) of the Kalasa-Bhandura dam project on Mahadayi, BJP is bluffing the people of Goa,” said NCP national spokesperson Clyde Crasto in a statement.
