The appearance of a sloth bear in a residential area of Gondia city in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region triggered panic among locals, prompting the Forest Department to launch a rescue operation. However, its personnel could not capture the animal. According to the PTI, a forest guard was injured during the rescue attempt and was hospitalised, officials said. While briefing about the incident, they further asserted that the sloth bear was first spotted in the Ganeshnagar locality on Thursday night and in the adjoining Govindpur area on Friday morning. During the rescue efforts, the animal ran away and disappeared into the adjoining fields behind the Collector Office. The adult male Indian gaur that was rescued after becoming trapped between two large water pipelines in Pune has now been successfully released into its natural habitat at the Bor Tiger Reserve in Wardha district in Maharashtra. The Pune Forest Division confirmed on Wednesday that the gaur was relocated after being declared medically fit following a detailed veterinary examination. The gaur became trapped between two Pune Municipal Corporation water pipelines along Canal Road near Sinhagad Road in Vishrantinagar on June 30. The rescue operation involved the Pune Forest Department, wildlife veterinarians, RESQ Charitable Trust, Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune Fire Brigade, Pune Police and local residents. Following several hours of coordinated efforts, the animal was safely rescued without suffering any major injuries. A rare injured Rusty-spotted Cat, regarded as the world’s smallest wild cat species, was rescued from a hostel campus near the Kharghar Hills in Maharashtra’s Raigad district after being spotted by a group of students. According to wildlife officials, the students found the wild cat in an injured condition inside the Panvel hostel premises. They secured the animal and immediately alerted the Forest Department.
