Devendra Fadnavis meets PM Modi, discusses Maharashtra growth and infrastructure

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed various issues related to the state’s development. In a post on social media platform X after the meeting, Fadnavis said he briefed the Prime Minister on the progress and status of several projects and development works underway in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Chief Minister also said he sought guidance from PM Modi on a range of matters concerning the state. “Called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today. Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange on Thursday warned that the Maharashtra government would be responsible if he suffers health complications during his planned indefinite hunger strike, which he said would begin under the open sky amid extreme summer heat from May 30, reported PTI. The Election Commission of India on Friday announced by-elections to two vacant Rajya Sabha seats from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The vacancies arose following the resignations of two sitting members from the Upper House earlier this month, according to a press note issued by the Commission. Vacancies created after resignations of MPs The Maharashtra seat fell vacant after the resignation of Sunetra Pawar on May 6. Her tenure in the Rajya Sabha was originally scheduled to continue till July 4, 2028. The second vacancy is from Tamil Nadu following the resignation of C. Ve. Shanmugam on May 7. His term was set to continue until June 29, 2028. In a closely watched by-election in Maharashtra’s Beed district, the wife of slain sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh was defeated in the race for the sarpanch post in Massajog village, reported the PTI. The result was declared on Wednesday following counting at the Kaij tehsil office. Returning Officer Santosh Karajwankar confirmed that Swarupanand Deshmukh secured victory by a margin of 92 votes. Ashwini Deshmukh, widow of the murdered sarpanch, had contested the election amid expectations of a sympathy wave.
