Giri More than 100 tribal students of three residential schools in Maharashtra’s Amravati district have been hospitalised after suffering from suspected food poisoning, officials said on Monday (July 27, 2026). A police complaint has been lodged against the operator of the central kitchen supplying meals to the schools, tribal development project officer (Dharni) Siddarth Shukla said. The students complained of vomiting after eating meals in the residential schools. On Saturday (July 25, 2026), 69 students were admitted to a government hospital in Dharni. On Sunday (July 26, 2026), similar symptoms were reported among 70 students at the government residential schools in Bijudhavdi and Savlikheda in Dharni tehsil and they were also hospitalised, the official said. Most of the children have since been discharged, while 32 remain under observation. Their condition is stable, he added. The Bombay high court has allowed the diversion of 94.68 hectares of forest and the cutting of 21,022 trees for the construction of 132-KV DC transmission lines from Dahanu sub-station to Suryanagar, Kavdas and Jawhar in Maharashtra’s Palghar, citing the infrastructural importance and assurances of compensatory afforestation. The company told the court that the proposed transmission lines are 80 km and certain segments of them pass through protected and mangrove forests in Dahanu and Jawhar. A mild earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck Maharashtra’s Hingoli district on Saturday morning, officials said. No casualties or damage to property were reported following the tremor. According to officials, the earthquake occurred at 11.26 am at a depth of 5 kilometres. The tremor was felt in parts of the district, prompting residents to step out of their homes as a precaution. Four women who went to the forest early Friday morning to collect tendu leaves were killed by a tigress in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, taking the toll of human-wildlife conflicts in the district to 18 since January, forest officials said. The deceased were identified as Kavdubai Dadaji Mohurle (45), Anubai Dadaji Mohurle (46), Sangeeta Santosh Chaudhary (36), and Sunita Kaushik Mohurle (33), all residents of Gunjewahi Village.
