Photo: @NarendraModi/Yt via PTI Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (May 11, 2026) performed ‘Maha Pooja’ and other rituals at the Somnath Temple as part of the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav marking 75 years of the inauguration of the restored shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. After holding a roadshow, the Prime Minister entered the temple and performed ‘Maha Pooja’ and ‘Jalabhishek’, the ritual of pouring holy water over the Shivling amid chanting of Vedic mantras. Mr. Modi also witnessed ‘Kumbhabhishek’, wherein holy water gathered from prominent pilgrimage sites across the country was sprinkled atop the temple’s ‘shikhar’ (towering spire) using a crane. The Somnath Amrut Mahotsav is being organised to commemorate 75 years since the inauguration of the restored temple by India’s first President, Dr Rajendra Prasad, in 1951. GI Mahotsav 3.0, an exhibition and sale of Geographical Indication (GI) products, will be held at CSIR’s CFTRI in Mysuru from December 5 to 8. A press statement issued by CFTRI Director Giridhar Parvatam said the four-day exhibition and sale organised by NABARD – Madurai Agri Business Incubation Forum (MABIF), in collaboration with Ministry of MSME, Government of India, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), and CFTRI, will remain open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “The mahotsav will host about 50 curated stalls exclusively dedicated to GI-registered artisans. These stalls will showcase and sell authentic GI products from across South India, offering visitors the opportunity to not only witness the diversity of India’s heritage crafts and product, but also to purchase them directly from the traditional producers,” said the statement.
