Jodhpur, A six-year-old girl died after a “makeshift” blackboard and parts of the supporting structure allegedly collapsed on her at a private senior secondary school in Jalore district on Friday afternoon, police said. 6-year-old killed in shoddy classroom in Jalore as ‘makeshift’ blackboard collapses; operator absconding The incident took place at Marudhar Shikshan Sansthan in Bawatra village under the Sayla police station area, they said, adding that the school operator is allegedly absconding following the accident. As part of the preliminary inquiry, authorities are examining the structural condition and safety of the school building, officials said. According to locals, the school was constructed about five to six years ago after purchasing the land. The structure had been constructed by stacking cement bricks against a brick wall. The classroom itself was makeshift, with cement brick walls around five to seven feet high. Bamboo poles had been affixed on top of the bricks and covered with tarpaulin to form a roof, locals said. Kept inside a makeshift tent on an open ground, the over 1,000-year- old skeleton excavated from Vadnagar in Mehsana district in 2019 has found its new home. On Thursday, after a five-hour exercise and under the watch of 15 experts, the skeleton – locally known as ‘samadhi wale babaji’ – was shifted to the Vadnagar Archaeological Experiential Museum, which was inaugurated earlier this year. A man was killed, while 13 others, including three children, were injured when a makeshift spectators gallery collapsed at Mallanayakanakatte village in Mandya, Karnataka during a kabaddi match on Saturday. The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Papannachari, whereas the injured were rushed to Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment. A divisional level floodlight Kabaddi tournament named Sri Bhyrava Cup 2025 was organised in association with a club Drona Warriors for the players under-23 years of age. The tournament, in its first-ever edition, was scheduled to be held at Sri Doddammna Gudi premises in the village across two days. A mob on Saturday stormed and destroyed a makeshift camp of Assam Rifles in Manipur’s Kamjong district over alleged harassment and restrictions on transportation of timber, officials said. Members of the group that attacked the camp in Hongbei area belonged to Kasom Khullen block of the Naga majority district. Tensions escalated on Saturday when the Assam Rifles soldiers allegedly barred transportation of timber intended for construction of houses in Kasom Khullen, officials said. Assam Rifles personnel used tear gas shells and fired in the air to disperse the protesters, they said. The mob later destroyed the makeshift camp of the paramilitary force and demanded that they be removed from the area. No casualty was reported in the melee.
