Indian box office marks 15% jump to hit Rs 4,219 crore as early 2026 outshines a dull 2025 | Bollywood News

The first half of 2025 was more or less dull for the Indian box office, as almost all the movies that emerged as massive blockbusters that year hit the screens after June, with the sole exceptions being Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava and Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan. However, things are different this time around, as the movies released from the start of January to the end of April registered a cumulative gross of Rs 4,219 crore in the domestic market, which is 15 per cent higher compared to the same period last year. The Dhurandhar phenomenon Director Aditya Dhar’s Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar: The Revenge emerged as the biggest hit during this period, grossing Rs 1,275 crore in the country, amounting to about 30.22 per cent of the total collections registered by films released in India during this period, according to “The India Box Office Report” unveiled by media research and audience insights firm Ormax Media. Made on Rs 60 lakh budget, Mohanlal and Priyadarshan’s comedy blockbuster was Malayalam cinema’s first Rs 5 cr grosser; producer had no faith as it had ‘no story’ | Malayalam News

When director Jeethu Joseph’s Mohanlal-starrer Drishyam (2013) crossed the Rs 50 crore mark, becoming the first Malayalam film to officially achieve this milestone, movie audiences in Kerala didn’t know exactly how to react. Crore clubs were things that Malayalam movie fanatics had only read about in news related to Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu industries. Even though some expected that such a day would eventually come for Malayalam cinema as well, no one, even in their wildest dreams, imagined that Drishyam would be the film to open the account. In another three years, Mohanlal himself officially inaugurated the Rs 100 crore club as his Pulimurugan (2016) ended up grossing Rs 139.5 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO Now, a movie entering the Rs 50 crore club doesn’t even excite audiences anymore, as the benchmark has risen above the Rs 300 crore mark. The highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, concluded its theatrical run with a worldwide collection of Rs 303.67 crore. With dissenting views cropping up within the organisation over publishing of monthly theatre collection reports of new movies, Kerala State Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) has come out with an explanation, saying the decision was meant to inform prospective investors about the present financial crisis in the industry. Thudarum Kerala Box Office Day 17: Mohanlal’s emotional thriller eyes blockbuster Sunday with Rs 1.50 crore in advance sales

It’s been over two weeks since Thudarum hit theaters, but the Mohanlal starrer is showing no signs of slowing down. Released on April 25, the emotional thriller has left every new release behind and is now heading into its third Sunday with a massive Rs 1.50 crore worth of advance bookings in Kerala. This is from the 1,090 shows tracked so far and the numbers will go up. Even more striking is the way the film has maintained momentum. The daily box office numbers haven’t dipped the way most films do. Thudarum collected Rs 5.10 crore on Day 1, jumped to Rs 7 crore on Day 2, peaked with Rs 8.20 crore on Day 3, and stayed steady for the rest of the days. By Day 16, it’s already reached Rs 92.05 crore in Kerala alone. Sunday’s turnout could take it even closer to the Rs 100 crore mark, a number no Malayalam film has ever hit from just one state. Day-wise box office collections of Thudarum are as follows: Day Gross Kerala collection 1 …

Thudarum Kerala Box Office: Mohanlal starrer packs theaters with 200K ticket sales, sets new record for mid-week; deets inside

Malayalam thriller Thudarum is showing no signs of slowing down at the Kerala box office. Its Day 6 performance has now etched its name in the record books. The Mohanlal-led drama has become the first Malayalam film to sell over 200,000 tickets on a Wednesday via BookMyShow. That’s an unprecedented achievement for a mid-week day in Kerala cinema. The Tharun Moorthy directorial has been on a dream run ever since it opened with a strong Rs 5 crore haul on Day 1. The buzz only intensified over the weekend, with Thudarum peaking on its first Sunday (Day 3) by collecting over Rs 8 crore. That still stands as the film’s highest single-day total. But May 1, a public holiday marking May Day, seems to have revived the box office energy once again. While the holiday falls on Day 7, Wednesday’s ticketing data already showed fireworks by Day 6 evening itself. The film sold over 200,000 tickets on BookMyShow alone on its sixth day, setting a new benchmark for mid-week Malayalam releases. The corresponding gross from Kerala …

Thudarum Kerala Box Office: Mohanlal’s mass appeal beats Alappuzha Gymkhana’s 21-day run in just 6 days, collects Rs 39.50 crore

Thudarum Kerala Box Office: Mohanlal’s mass appeal beats Alappuzha Gymkhana’s 21-day run in just 6 days, collects Rs 39.50 crore

There are box office wins, and then there are Mohanlal-level victories. His latest outing, Thudarum, which hit theaters on April 25, didn’t just make a solid start but also clocked an impressive Rs 100 crore worldwide gross already. From Kerala alone, the film pocketed Rs 39.50 crore gross in just 6 days, which is more than what Alappuzha Gymkhana earned in its 21-day run. For context, Alappuzha Gymkhana, the youth-driven sports comedy starring Naslen Gafoor, released on April 10 and pulled in a strong Rs 37.05 crore during its three-week run. But Thudarum, an engaging crime thriller backed by the Lucifer legacy, has simply steamrolled ahead, proving once again that Mohanlal’s star power remains unmatched in Kerala. When Mohanlal’s face is on the poster, audiences show up, and that tilted the balance in Thudarum’s favor. Add to that the emotional high of watching him reunite with Shobana on screen, and you’ve got family crowds walking in with nostalgia. While Naslen has charm and rising popularity, he’s still climbing the ladder Mohanlal built decades ago.   …

Thudarum Kerala Box Office Day 4 Advances: Mohanlal’s film scores Rs 4 crore on Monday despite it being the first working day

While new Malayalam films are setting benchmarks across India, Superstar Mohanlal’s latest thriller Thudarum is in no mood to slow down. The film, which was released on Friday, April 25, made an astounding Rs 5.10 crore on its first day of release. If day one was good, day two was even better, bringing in Rs 7 crore gross. Riding high on goodwill, Thudarum showed no signs of exhaustion as it made an impressive Rs 9 crore on its third day, Sunday as well. Usually, Malayalam movies tend to witness a dip on the first working day. However, Thudarum has broken that trend. On Monday, the advance bookings of this Tharun Moorthy directorial touched the Rs 4 crore mark, making it a rare achievement without heavy marketing. It is a clear sign that Mohanlal’s magic, combined with strong word of mouth, is unstoppable. Many centers are adding more shows as a result of the unforeseen demand. It is interesting to note that the movie is doing just as well in Telugu states, attracting both reviewers and …
