Bazooka vs Alappuzha Gymkhana Kerala Box Office: Naslen starrer overtakes Mammootty’s film on day 2; maintains lead on Saturday

This Vishu season, the Kerala box office has witnessed an unexpected yet exciting clash between two Malayalam films, one being Bazooka, starring Mammootty, and the other being Alappuzha Gymkhana, headlined by Premalu fame Naslen K. Gafoor. While expectations were definitely high on Bazooka due to the megastar’s presence and the stylish content the trailer promised, Alappuzha Gymkhana has emerged as the surprise winner in this early box office race if the numbers are anything to go by. Both films were released on April 10 along with Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly and Basil Joseph’s Marana Mass and competed with the already established Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan. While Bazooka opened strong with Rs 3.30 crore gross on Day 1, banking heavily on Mammootty’s star power, Alappuzha Gymkhana also packed a solid punch on its debut, earning close to Rs 3 crore. Though the opening day numbers were neck and neck, the scales shifted on Day 2, giving an advantage to the low-budgeted, youthful film.  On Friday, despite being a working day, Alappuzha Gymkhana maintained a stronghold and added Rs …

Months after mass resignations in AMMA amid sexual misconduct allegations, actor-minister Suresh Gopi initiates steps to form new executive committee | Malayalam News

Over two months after the office bearers of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), including president Mohanlal, submitted a mass resignation, actor and Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi has announced that a new executive committee will soon be formed. Suresh made this statement while addressing questions from the media as he exited AMMA’s office in Kochi, after having attended the Kerala Piravi celebrations there. The Thrissur MP arrived for the event with his family. When asked about the timing for forming a new committee and if any discussions were held on this matter, Suresh revealed that today’s gathering marked the beginning of that process. “Let responsible ones come forward now,” he added. On being asked about his view on the previous committee’s mass resignation, the parliamentarian responded with a wide and sarcastic smile and said, “I have shared my opinion (on this) with the organisation,” indicating his reluctance to make any public comment on the matter. He also declined to comment on whether Mohanlal would return as AMMA’s …

Kondal movie review: Antony Varghese Pepe’s actioner is ruined by aimless writing | Movie-review News

Kondal movie review: A man embarking on a vengeful rampage to eliminate those who wronged his mainstay is a familiar premise in world cinema. Yet, it remains popular and can still resonate with the masses if executed at least decently well, particularly due to its emotional depth tied to the ‘bro-code’. However, debutant director Ajith Mampally’s Kondal (Raincloud), starring Antony Varghese Pepe, Raj B Shetty and Shabeer Kallarakkal in the lead roles, despite having this tried-and-true premise, falls short due to poor and aimless writing. The film introduces Antony with the sobriquet “Action Hero,” and in this regard, Kondal delivers, capitalising on his ability to excel in raw stunt sequences. This is further amplified by the film’s setting as a significant portion unfolds on a fishing boat at sea, heightening the tension. Nivin Pauly claims sexual abuse complaint against him part of larger conspiracy, suspects involvement of film industry insiders | Malayalam News

Days after a rape case was filed against Malayalam star Nivin Pauly based on a woman’s complaint that he sexually abused her in a Dubai hotel last year after promising her a role in a film, the actor voiced suspicions that the complaint is part of a larger conspiracy. He also suggested that people within the Malayalam film industry might be responsible for orchestrating it. Nivin made these allegations in a complaint to Crime Branch ADGP H Venkatesh IPS, who oversees the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the Kerala government to investigate sexual harassment allegations involving several industry insiders. He submitted his complaint directly at the crime branch headquarters. In his plaint, Nivin asserted that the allegations were baseless and that he was innocent. He urged the officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the claims made against him, reiterating his belief that a serious conspiracy was at play, possibly involving members of the film industry. After the police registered an FIR against Nivin under various IPC sections, including Section 376 (rape), the …

Senior Malayalam actor Sheela flays those demanding proof in harassment cases: ‘Can we take selfie when someone suddenly hugs or kisses us?’ | Malayalam News

The latest wave of the MeToo movement in Kerala has already gained significant momentum and shaken the foundations of many powerhouses, with the accused facing both legal heat and public outrage. Meanwhile, various organisations associated with Malayalam cinema, including the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), are also under heavy scrutiny for their actions — or lack thereof — and their past attempts to dismiss similar complaints as isolated cases. The release of the Justice Hema Committee report and several allegations of sexual misconduct that surfaced against many male industry members, including those from AMMA, in its aftermath, has created a rift in the industry, with various celebrities either supporting the survivors or backing the powerhouses that are in denial and have taken a defensive stand. Now, legendary actor Sheela, one of the senior most members of the industry, has come forward extending solidarity to the women who have been facing these challenges. “I know the struggles women go through to act in movies. There are some …

One of the most eagerly awaited Malayalam films of the year, Turbo has been generating significant buzz ever since its initial announcement. Now, Turbo’s trailer has arrived, promising that the movie will be a high-octane action comedy with a no-holds-barred Mammootty at the centre. The 133-second trailer opens by directly introducing Jose (Mammootty), referred to by others as Turbo Jose for his impressive action abilities. Throughout the trailer, we see glimpses of Jose’s intense fights. However, his dominance is challenged when another powerful man (Raj B Shetty) appears, leading to a confrontation though Jose has no idea as to how or why they ended up locking horns.
