Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu’s campaign at the Malaysia Open Super 1000 concluded with a semifinal exit in the women’s singles event in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. The Indian ace went down to world No. 2 Wang Zhiyi of China in straight games, 16-21, 15-21, in a 52-minute encounter. “At this stage it’s going to be hard games, there ain’t going to be easy games. India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu stormed into the semi-finals of the 2026 Malaysia Open Super 1000 in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. Sindhu won the first game 21-11 when her Japanese opponent World No 3 Akane Yamaguchi retired after just 12 minutes of play. It will be her first semi-final appearance at a Super 1000 event in five years, since the Indonesia Open in 2021. Sindhu is competing in her first tournament since withdrawing from the remainder of the 2025 BWF World Tour season in October due to a foot injury. Later in the day, men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will take on Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the quarterfinal. Indian badminton players had a mixed outing at the 2026 Malaysia Open Super 1000 as two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and men’s doubles pair of Satwik-Chirag marched ahead, while Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty ended their men’s singles campaign in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. PV Sindhu got the better of World No 9 Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan 21-8, 21-13 in a little over 30 minutes to advance to the quarterfinals. In men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty combined to register a 21-18, 21-11 straight games win over Malaysia’s RK Yap and Junaidi Arif to reach the men’s doubles quarter-finals. Earlier in the day, Lakshya and Ayush lost their respective men’s singles Round of 16 matches. PV Sindhu advances to second round; Dhruv-Tanisha exit

Indian ace PV Sindhu gave a good start to her year, registering a straight-game win in the opening round of the year’s first tournament, Malaysia Open, on Wednesday. The two-time Olympic medalist got the better of Sung Shuo-yun of Chinese Taipei 21-13, 22-20 in a 51-minute encounter, keeping her unbeaten record against her. This was the third consecutive win for Sindhu against the Taipei player, having all three straight-game wins against her and not losing even a single game. Sindhu, however, had a poor start to the match, trailing by 5 points in the opening game, but then she found her rhythm and won 10 straight points to close out the game comfortably.
