Mamata’s slog-over attempts to stop team collapse see a Sourav Ganguly ‘clarification’ cameo

Mamata Banerjee no longer holds a seat in any House, and the party she formed is no longer in her control in the Bengal assembly. Having lost her assembly seat in last month’s defeat to the BJP, the Trinamool Congress chief is reportedly weighing a return to Parliament now after nearly two decades through a by-election. She has already reshuffled the organisation a bit to try and steady it. But her alleged search for a seat for herself has pulled in an unlikely name on Saturday: Sourav Ganguly. Mamata Banerjee last sat in the Lok Sabha in 2011; reports say she is eyeing a return but Ganguly has denied helping her with a key move towards that goal. (PTI ) The former Indian cricket captain, who has cult hero status in Bengal in particular, issued a clarification on Saturday, saying he is not a player at all in this game. Mamata’s many moves For Mamata Banerjee, 71, a reshuffle came first amid a widening rebellion, partly centred against her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. He will remain …

Clips of Mamata Banerjee allegedly rebuking the CEO of the private hospital has gone viral. In the footage shared by BJP state spokesperson Debjit Sarkar, the former CM is purportedly heard telling the CEO, “Sorry… you have done the wrong thing. Please remember the help we have done for you. God will not excuse you… You never treated a patient; you should be ashamed. Everybody will remember this arrogance… You are running the hospital, threatening the doctors because the BJP is in power.” Shame on @MamataOfficial for her conduct at the hospital emergency ward. Is this an attempt to evade the CID summons to Abhishek Banerjee? Patients who genuinely need treatment should not suffer because of …

PM’s ‘real change’ appeal vs Mamata’s ‘poriborton’ pitch from years ago| India News

Nearly two decades after the plains of Singur in Bengal became the epicentre of a political earthquake that toppled a 34-year-old regime, the town was on Sunday back at the heart of a high-stakes ideological battle. The challenger then, Mamata Banerjee, is now an incumbent of three terms as Chief Minister, who faced sharp attacks from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose party BJP is hoping to turn the tables this time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi waves to the gathering during a public meeting at Singur in Hooghly district, West Bengal, on Sunday, January 18, 2026. (PTI ) At the Sunday rally, PM Modi framed the upcoming assembly elections as a choice between “good governance” and what he termed “maha jungle raj”. In a pointed effort to dismantle the legacy of CM Mamata Banerjee’s 2011 “poriborton” (change or transformation), the Prime Minister gave a call for “real change” or “asol poriborton” to restore investor and industry confidence in West Bengal. In the lexicon of Bengal’s politics, “poriborton” is a word heavy with history, famously serving as …

File | Photo Credit: ANI Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Sunday (January 11, 2026) termed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s allegations over the ongoing SIR in the State as “baseless and exaggerated”, and accused her of trying to derail the electoral roll revision exercise for political reasons. In a post on X, Mr. Adhikari also said he has written to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and claimed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls was “exposing the rot in the voter lists — bogus entries, duplicates, and infiltrators that have been nurtured under the TMC’s watch for years”. The BJP leader alleged that the SIR exercise was “damaging the TMC’s electoral prospects”, and that’s why the CM was resorting to hysteria”. Ms. Banerjee had on Saturday (January 10, 2026) written to the CEC, alleging that the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls has been turned into an exercise to exclude voters rather than correct records. In her third letter to Mr. Kumar …
