Ex-India cricketer slams CA’s workload management plan as Starc, Cummins & Hazlewood set to miss IPL 2026 start

3 min readMar 21, 2026 11:44 AM IST With just a few days left for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, there has been a growing list of players who are set to miss out on the initial phase of the tournament due to various reasons, but it’s the omission of the ace Australian pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc that has made the biggest headline. Cricket Australia (CA) is reported to be taking a cautious approach to managing its pacers ahead of a gruelling international schedule, which means Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be without their star fast bowlers for the first few games because of CA’s workload management plan. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra slammed CA for their conservative approach, saying the IPL franchises would, at some point, need to take a call on this. He said, “I’m thinking, now if Mitchell Starc is also not coming at the start, what is Cricket Australia even doing? You didn’t let Josh Hazlewood come. Pat Cummins isn’t …

‘If you’re not in, no-one cares about you’: Liam Livingstone praises RCB and savages England management after year in the cold | Cricket News

3 min readUpdated: Mar 16, 2026 08:46 PM IST Liam Livingstone has launched a stinging attack on England’s management after 12 months without an international appearance, revealing that managing director Rob Key told him he had “100 more important things to do than speak to you” when Livingstone raised the lack of communication after being dropped. The allrounder was axed last summer after England lost 10 of 11 games across a tour to India and the Champions Trophy. Head coach Brendon McCullum delivered the news in a phone call Livingstone says lasted under a minute. “I asked why; they said they wanted to try someone else. That was off Baz,” Liam told EspnCricinfo. Key, he says, said nothing at the time — and went on to prove largely unreachable for months. When Livingstone eventually did speak to Key in late September, it was to be told his central contract would not be renewed. When he raised the months of silence, Key’s response stopped him short. “He said he had 100 more important things to do …

3 min readMar 8, 2026 05:23 PM IST Former India player Mohammad Kaif on Sunday said that the Indian team management has a tough decision on their hands on if they’ll persist with out of form Abhishek Sharma or replace him with Rinku Singh in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand. Abhishek, who has scored a grand total of just 89 runs in the 7 matches he has played, scoring a half century against Zimbabwe and going for 3 back to back ducks in the first 3 matches he played. “Team management has to take a tough call on Abhishek Sharma. Some say he should play today since an out-of-form Kohli won the final for India last time. But then Kohli is king of ICC events. Some say he should be replaced by Rinku who like Sanju Samson can make a grand comeback. DUVIDHA!!!,” Kaif posted on X. A couple of days ago, Kaif had advocated for giving Abhishek a break and replacing him with Rinku in the final. “India can give Abhishek …

3 min readMar 6, 2026 06:08 PM IST With Abhishek Sharma failing to fire for India in the T20 World Cup thus far, there have been numerous calls to drop him from the playing XI when India take on New Zealand in the summit clash on Sunday. However, the 25-year-old has the backing of former World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev who is of the opinion that Abhishek should stay put in the team against the Kiwis at Ahmedabad. “Just believe in your team and the management should believe in the player. And Abhishek should believe in himself that ‘I can perform and I will perform’. Still one game is there – the final,” Kapil said. Abhishek has had a T20 World Cup to forget, having scored just one half century– against Zimbabwe– while getting out for 3 back to back ducks in the first three matches of the tournament.
