Several student groups protested against Savitribai Phule Pune University’s (SPPU) recent circular that mandated an eight-day notice period for permission for any protest on campus on Monday. Students and volunteers from the National Students Union of India (NSUI), Bhim Army Students Federation, Nationalist Student Congress, University Student Struggle Action Committee, Samyak Vidyarthi Andolan, New Samajwadi Alternative, and Yuvak Kranti Dal were involved in the protest. In a circular issued on December 30, SPPU declared that permission for any meetings, sit-ins, protests, or similar programmes must be obtainedfrom the university administration eight days prior to the event. The circular added that appropriate action will be taken against any such events organised without permission.
