UP forms new SIT to probe Ram Mandir donation theft case

In line with the Supreme Court’s instructions, Uttar Pradesh government has reconstituted the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for investigation into alleged irregularities of donations and offerings made at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple.  According to reports, the newly constituted SIT includes three senior IPS officers, with Inspector General (IG) Kiran S heading the team. The new SIT will also has DIG Ayodhya Somen Verma and SSP Ayodhya Dr Gaurav Grover as its members. The move comes after the Supreme Court ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to constitute a fresh SIT, under the leadership of a senior IPS officer. The bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, also comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohan, had directed that a status report of the investigation be submitted on July 27. So far, eight accused have been arrested by the Ayodhya Police as part of investigation into the embezzlement allegation, with investigators recovering cash, vehicles, investment-related documents and other assets purportedly bought using the misappropriated funds. After allegations of embezzlement of Ram Temple donations in Ayodhya, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) ordered an inquiry on Friday into similar allegations concerning offerings at Badrinath Dham. On Friday, a group named Bhairav Sena alleged financial misappropriation linked to the personal assistant of the BKTC President Hemant Dwivedi. Dwivedi said, “I wish to state that the Temple Committee has taken this matter very seriously. Ram Mandir donations case: Police raid houses of eight accused

Ayodhya police on Sunday conducted simultaneous raids at the residences of all eight people arrested in connection with the alleged embezzlement of donations at Ram temple, police sources said. Police teams carried out searches at the homes of the accused, including Lav Kush Mishra, Avinash Shukla and Ramashankar Yadav, the sources said. The raids come two days after all eight accused were remanded in judicial custody till June 29 by a court in Ayodhya.  According to the prosecution, investigators have so far recovered Rs 79.85 lakh. The accused have been booked under provisions of the BNS related to theft by servant, criminal breach of trust, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy, besides sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
